Took the boys to Duckhurst for some BSJA on sunday. Had decided to do the 1m Am on both and the 1.05m Open on Bo but when we arrived they were building the course for the Disco so put Trike in that instead
He warmed up like a horse on speed (well, by his standards anyway
) and then proceeded to jump a super clear....along with the majority of the rest of the class
The JO course was very twisty which doesn't really suit him but I had nothing to lose by having a go. Again he jumped a lovely clear but lost too much impulsion in the turns so werenzt quick enough. Finished up 7th but they only paid 4 places....a Disco DC nonetheless though so pleased with that, and for the first time I actually felt like he could go round a Newcomers if he continues to progress the way he has of late
Bo jumped the 1m Am and turned in a good clear round as well. I've started to push him against the clock this season with varying degrees of success and we were drawn first so againt went for it. Unfortunately we had another communications breakdown on a right turn back to an oxer and ended up grinding to a halt in front of it....the only blemish in an otherwise good round
Then came the 1.05m Open and we jumped first in this one so we could get off home if he didn't go clear...anyway he did....jumping a very good round and starting to feel like he was getting in the air a bit more at last. After the problem in the earlier JO, and having watched the first 2 or 3 go round at 100mph I decided to take things easy and just go for a DC but things took an unexpected (and painful) turn at the second fence. Another oxer on the right rein, I gave him plenty of room and we had a perfect stride...so much so that I was taking off...as he decided to chuck in a really dirty stop at the last moment. I ended up in the 'pole coffin' and am now nursing a rather painful dead leg
I have no idea what caused him to stop like that but having looked back over my past 4 JO's with him now i've realised he's had a stop in each one....what's going on !?
We have Am second rounds next time out at 90cms (Trike) and 1.10m (Bo) and with one horse jumping so reliably and the other causing me headaches...ho hum.
