Well, we took the boys to Duckhurst on sunday for some indoor SJ'ing. Who would have thought the weather would turn out so hot for the *winter* season lol!

Trike was freshly clipped on saturday (fortunately), otherwise would have frazzled...the hairy monster

Well, Trike jumped a good double clear in the British Novice....which is all we wanted of him. One down, three more to go

Then, in the Discovery he was clear to the penultimate fence which he must have just rubbed a stray hair on as it fell

He thought he'd finished as it was the last jump in the BN jump-off, but the course builder had decided to put the last fence as a biggish oxer going away from the collecting ring....so, just about got a canter going again, but not good enough, and so rather than jump the fence, he decided to preserve himself............but I didn't lol! Exit stage left....well a graceful dismount really

Couldn't be cross though as he'd jumped his heart out for the rest of the course, and the day for that matter

Bo was just entered for the 1m Am qualifier. We wanted to take things slowly with him after his problems this summer. Anyway, it all started well, he was really up for it....taking me to the fences - something that's been lacking for a while. We were clear to the last fence which we met on a slightly long stride, and he put the brakes on

Came to it again and he did the same again

I think he remembered his fall at Pyecombe though and just lost his confidence. We popped an oxer on the way out and left it that. It was hugely disappointing to end on that note as he'd been going sooo well to that point, but trying to take some positives out of it, he did seem to be up for it, and apart from a sudden loss of confidence never even looked like touching a pole. We'll keep the fences small again next time out and just try to build confidence slowly...

im so glad Trike is doing well - bless him, i bet he really thought he'd finished the course and then when you pointed him at another fence probably got really confused!!!!! Well done tho for the double clear, hes obviously really enjoying life with you

Was wondering how you got on, well done for the DC! Real shame about Bo though, hopefully he'll get his sparkle back soon

And shame about the fall!

Perhaps you should tell Trikey the course before you go in next time, so he doesn't get confuzzled!

No lack of sparkle yesterday...that was there in abundance. He was just taking me to the fences so much that by the end of the course he was getting very onward bound, making it harder and harder to get a stride. This in turn caused the 'long one' that then blew the confidence

Aww hun

a high and low post. So pleased for you and trike the DC was a super result. Even with the unplanned dismount hehe! bless him - horses are so clever!

As for Bo, I feel for you, as I went through the same pain with Winston. One minute we are jumping big stuff the next he gets a fright and thats it, throws in the towel if things arent 100% (i.e. he isnt on the perfect stride).

I think you are doing the right thing and taking him back down, lots of pole work, cantering over poles on the ground and having 4 x poles on a 20 mtre circle and building it up that way - i did this with winston and although just occasionally he will put the odd stop in its rare, he is far more confident and will jump on a deep spot - something he would not do before!

Its frustrating but he will come back on form

Awww what a good boy Trike is

Shame about Bo though

Hopefully keeping it small will help him gain his confidence again and he will be back out jumping his socks off again.

And what did i tell you about ordering up some sticky bum jods LOL

He was little star Kelly
smile.gif
I just need to learn to sit on him lol! Problem is, he's so genuine that I really wasn't expecting a stop...as you know, he goes from anywhere usually, so I was fully committed
