Took the boys to Duckhurst for BSJA today
smile.gif

Trike had his 1m Am 2nd Round, and Bo was going for 1.05m and 1.10m Open's.....well that was the plan anyway
tongue.gif

We arrived at 11am and they were still doing the JO for Class 1 ! We were planning to do classes 3,4 and 5 ! So, slight change of plan, and we entered Bo into the 1m Am 1st round and the 1.05m Open, and Trike, as planned for his 2nd Round (Class 3).

So, we got ready for class 2 with Bo, but were about 30th to go....not ideal as he only needs a few minutes warm-up or just boils over. So, after about 30 minutes of warm-up, we were truly ready to explode lol! He jumped a good clear round...very bouncy, but never felt like touching anything. We were then drawn first to go in the JO (out of 21 !!!), and again he went very well and jumped clear. It felt quick enough at the time, but we ended up 9 seconds off the pace so were unplaced

Trike came out next for his 2nd Round. He was bouncin' around the warm-up and seemed to think that every transition should be preceeded by a bronking session
shocked.gif
Anyway, he jumped the best i have ever felt him, and was just sooooo unlucky to have the last fence down because he jumped into the double too strong and made up too much ground and so was deep into the upright coming out
frown.gif
Still, it was only his 3rd 1m with me and he really was bouncing around the course and felt great
grin.gif

So, next up would be Bo for the 1.05m....or that was the plan. At 4pm they just finished the 2nd round, so we decided to call it a day an come home
frown.gif
If we'd stuck to our original plan and jumped the 1.05m and 1.10m with Bo we'd have been there at 7pm tonight
shocked.gif

A good day for both the boys, but no diesel money this time
frown.gif
They both jumped exceptionally well though, and i'm looking forward to taking them out again in the next couple of weeks

Hey, okay so it didnt go quite according to plan, but both your boys seem to be jumping confidently and cleanly
smile.gif

Well done, Trike sounds to be getting better and better - and good old Bo's confidence is being restored
smile.gif

Im planning to go to Addington next weekend for our 2nd BSJA EVER- just entering the Discovery so we shouldnt be there all day - I hope!!!

Lol! I enjoy BSJA and the fact that you can actually win back some costs but when it comes to eventing, you cant beat turning up at your time and doing it, it's very rare you are kept hanging around for long.

I had one of these, but it was so thick, that it made the saddle too tight, I sold it on Ebay, and made a profit as I bought it in a closing down sale!
Why do show jumpers have these as they are supposed to have saddles that are a perfect fit yet these are like putting very thick socks on with well fitting shoes?
I recently had a jump saddle fitted and it fits perfectly, but I couldn`t really have a saddle fitted with the understanding that I was to have one of the sheepskin pads on, then it would just throw it all about. And yes, they do look the part.

Sorry Rambo, I forgot to add, well done for today with the jumping. It is a pain when you have to jump anything other than the first or second class as there is a lot of waiting around.
Your horses are going well, I wish I could get some double clears at the moment. Any tips?

Tips...LOL!

It's been a while since Bo has been jumping DC's (about 3 months since his virus struck
frown.gif
) so not sure i'm best placed to give advice there
shocked.gif

TBH we've just stepped him down a couple of levels and built the confidence back up slowly, and now it's starting to pay dividends as he's taking the fences on again and feels ready to move up again
smile.gif
I'm sure yours will come right soon, just perseverence I think.

Thanks

It was odd really as the lorry park wasn't exactly rammed, but the classes took an age to get through. They were getting a lot of clears though and the JO's were as big as some classes i've jumped
shocked.gif

Bo's definitely back....just a shame we didn't get to do the two bigger classes with him as he'll never win a steeplechase round a 1m....well, not with me on his back anyways

Hi

I was there yesterday too and was quite surpised at how long it seemed to take them to get through the classes!

I just did the amateur 2nd round and had the 4th fence down. Totally my fault and apart from that she went well.

Argh...Bad luck. Are you planning on doing any more of the 2nd Rounds ? We're probably going to Norton Heath for the 90cm and 1m 2nd's there at the end of the month.

Hi Rambo

So pleased for you that they are both full of beans and doing well at the mo.

Shame about the 4 faults with Trike but glad the impulsion is back again and really pleased Bo is back on top form again.

Keep up the good work

Sounds like it was really busy then! But still sounds like you did quite well! Was the BN built quite big or did you not really notice? Do you happen to know the schedule for the Seniors on 22 October at Duckhurst? Are you going to that?

Hi Lis,

To be honest, I didn't think any of the courses that I saw were built particularly big....and that was probably borne out by the number of clears in each class
shocked.gif
Certainly the BN jump-off looked quite small...I didn't see the 1st round though.

We won't be at Duckhurst on the 22nd...we're away for the weekend. According the their website though, the schedule is 'being prepared' lol!

Good luck to you if you go....

Duckhurst always builds "kind" courses! Downside of that is there are always loads in the jump off so if you do want to be placed you have to go round flat out. Other places that build a bit stronger tend to have less clears and quite often, a double clear gets you placed at that sort of venue.

The 22 October is an amateur schedule - I think classes from 0.90cm to 1.20.

I would agree with that

It's such a big arena too that there is always plenty of space in between the fences.

To be honest am not bothered about being placed would be more than happy with a double clear !!
smile.gif
Would not want to go flat out with Blue at this stage don't think it would be such a good idea !
crazy.gif

Did not think the shows would be quite so busy so quickly though!! When are you next there Rambo?

*whispers*

We only go there if there's a special class we want to jump or there's nothing on at Crockstead or Golden Cross. I don't really like the warm-up and i prefer to stay in Sussex anyway as I know more people there and the venues are a bit closer
