Due to try a horse that is injured

I’m due to try a horse this weekend, however have just had a message from the seller saying he’s had a week off due to a field injury.

Apparently he has been seen by the vet, and is fine now, with just a few superficial marks, and was ridden today and was fine.

It’s fairly out of my way to get there - so just wondered what people think?

Maybe defer going to see him for a week, but it would depend how much interest there was in him and how keen l was. The seller seems to be being honest, things happen but at the end it’s your decision whether you go or not.Always worth checking with the vet.

It wouldn't stop me going to view, but definitely make sure she rides first in case he is fresh.

I don’t think he’s had a huge amount of interest tbh as I originally wanted to view him 2/3 weeks ago and he’s still available.

I'd be concerned this is going to be a 'disaster' viewing where the marks are actually signs of poor keep, and that it will be an excuse for a lame horse. I'd ask for pics and vids before I'd travel a long way.

It could be honest or it could be setting up to excuse any poor behaviour. "Oh its just because he hasn't been ridden for a week, he's normally fine". Then you buy him and find the behaviour is his usual mode.

Mmm...suspect it's going to be a wasted journey for you unfortunately. I'd put money on the horse being lame.

Ask for a video of the injury and remaining marks and of him trotting up with today's date on video. Also if possible the vet report?

I have viewed two horses with ‘recent ‘ injuries at dealers . The first ( kicked in the field, superficial injuries ) turned out to be my horse of a lifetime .. the second ( big leg / needs shoeing ) turned out to be a disaster and nearly killed me …

Thanks all - I have deferred for a week for the moment and will ask for some photos/videos of the injuries.

Have to say it’s not giving me great vibes, however I did a lot of background research on the dealer who usually elicits very positive reviews.

I wouldnt be worried because this is precisely the luck i have.
Sold my car and was due to pick up my new one on the monday and someone wrote the car off on the Saturday

Id want to know all details of the injury etc

And id just arrange to go this week
