Following the advice given in recent threads on here, today I took the plunge and removed my unclipped hairy cobs 7 turnout rugs that she has worn all winter. Now she has dirt on her and even worse some of her hair has come out. Is this normal? Should I get the vet?
I was worried she was cold so I rushed round to the tack shop and bought a 700g full neck arctic weight stable rug for her tonight. But the silly horse wouldn't let me put it on and tried to bite and kick me. I tried parelli but even that didn't help. What on earth can be wrong with her - should I get a behaviourist out to her?
Even worse, when I removed all the rugs she seems to have grown in height so I am no longer eligible to enter my fave showing class, prettiest mare 14.2 and under. Why would this happen, she was a nice size before even though her legs were a bit bowed?
So can I sue all those people who said it was ok to take rugs off your horse in the spring?? It hasn't worked for me and I'm sat here crying over my poor cold dirty pony.

Maybe she won't let you put it on because she's happy the way she is? And as for the hair loss, she's probably moulting because it's turning to summer! Wait and see how she does, she should be fine! Don't cry! :) xx

Oh, and if you're worried that she's cold - feel the base of her ears. If they're warm, then she's absolutely fine. If they're stone cold THEN you can put a rug on. If they're reasonably warm then she's happy! :) xx

Sue, sue! For a very reasonable fee (payable in advance) I will be happy to take this case forward for you. I am very confident that someone in this case will make money from it, so very happy to instigate proceedings for you.

Please supply your bank details to Booboos Lawe Firm at your earliest convenience.

:D :D :D may I have your card? xx

Oh Booboos - what a kind offer of your internationally renowed Lawe firm to take up my humble case. I am honoured. Shall i just send you details of all my bank and building society accounts so you can deduct funds accordingly?
(Will I still have enough left to buy more rugs?)

Happy to oblige! We will be pleased to deduct all the funds from your account, please ensure it is adequately stocked up in advance to avoid disappointment later on.

I am appalled by your lack of consideration for your horse's wellbeing. Only 7 rugs? What is this- Miami?? Stupid girl, tell me your address and I will go there with my bitless bridle and hoofboots and remove your overheight cob to my own place where we have radiators in all the stables and the fields are under cover and have no mud. Frankly I'm unable to comprehend why you would take some complete idiot's advice to remove even one of the rugs when there is clearly a breath of fresh air over mainland Europe. Besides- you should have come to me immediately.

I'm really sorry.. but this did make me smile :D xx

sounds like horse heaven! Do you give them lots of nice big feeds as well?

Ps hope no-one took my original post seriously - after all I am a founder member of the 'turn 'em out in any weather clique!'

Oh yes- I keep my horses totally naturally- like they would live in the wild, I give them supplemented herbs in their wild oats such as camomile, nettles, alpine lichen and basil. I keep them shoeless, only trimmed by a lady who listens to how they want to be trimmed and only ridden in gossamer bridles. They usually stay in all day and night as that's how they live in the wild.

ROFLMAO - that the OP could be so taken in as to have listened to the irriates who said take the rugs off! I think your poor, poor cold wee (or rather now not so wee) horse should sue you. Hm. Maybe I will take up the poor thing's case - I will of course come to you for a monies owing, which will of course be considerable (I do have a herd of my own to pay for, plus hubby fancies a holiday in the Seychelles as soon as the dust cloud has blown away).

My own dear horses are, of course as I am a caring and considerate owner, still in their ten rugs each, turned out for only an hour a day as otherwise they will get scared/lost/dirty. They all have leg boots and tail guards and knee pads and hock boots, and I don't really care for comments that they look like they are ready for a game of ice hockey.

Their stables are not only centrally heated, but also have double glazing and under floor heating, just to make sure that every little bit of them is toasty warm.

Interestingly enough, they tend not to have this falling out of hair malarky and indeed remain sleek and light coated all year round :)

In fact, after due consideration and contemplation, and weighing up the pros and con(artist)s, send me your horses and your money, the deeds to your house and the keys to your car and we'll call it quits, then I will have no need to set the hounds of the Really Silly Pointless Care Association (Disclaimer: totally fictional and with no connection implied or otherwise with any real life organization, industry, person, alien, or indeed collection of people (or aliens)) onto you :D

P.S. Showing is cruel as the poor pony who comes in last will have an inferiority complex and may feel bad about him/herself for many days afterwards. All ponies/overheight ponies/vertically challenged horses should get prizes and rosettes for stepping out of the stable even if they have to be chased out with a soft rope and corralled by crystal waving horsewhisperers as you can't get near it to touch it. That's just my opinion of course but it it correct and so you can't sue me coz my horse told me.

Dear Lene Horse,we at the Pony Rugs Addition Trust fully understand how betrayed you must feel. Our campaign to provide all horses in sub saharan Africa with winter rugs is completely undermined by such sensless cruelty at home. Why only today I saw a pony in a field with only five rugs on ,but worse still,They did not match. I am relieved to see that you are getting help from that world famous Bar-ista Booboos. Booboos coincidentaly is author of that equestrian bible "the Booboos training method"We are at present offering a copy of this ,with our publications,"Colour coordinate or cruelty",and "Be a prat stick another rug on"

Ooh, are those books available only at bad bookstores? I really must buy them for some stupid inferior people who I know of- one of which refuses to put ANY TURN OUT RUGS AT ALL on her shetland pony in July. It makes me want to cry into my tear stained knitted hankerchief

These publications are available at all major disreputable bookstores. Oh the poor dear little shetland, PM me with the details and I will send a prat round immediately. And remember folks Its not enough to just rug your horse up at the moment,a fly rug is an absolute must as well.

I am suing you! The BooboosTechnique is trademarked and copyrighted!

Calm down Booboos, we are certainly not giving your books away. PS another consignment of special sticks and fancy ropes please.

Lenehorse - do you not realise that you replace the heavyweight turnouts (x7) with flyrugs? Of course you must use the ones with full necks and face masks and preferably the ones with the nice little tummy flaps. Your hairy cob must not be exposed to the dangers of fresh air on his body or harmful sunshine and definitely not mud on any part of his body!!!!
In fact now we also have this toxic dust cloud from the volcano it is too dangerous for any horse to be out and they should all be confined to their air conditioned stables, with of course the attached wet room!

Some people are just not fit to own horses. It makes me so angry. Nobody has mentioned fitting the poor horses with breathing apparatus so they aren't inhaling toxic dust from the volcano- have you not heard what it does to planes? Putting them in their stable just isn't enough. I would also recommend at least 8 stable rugs and microwaving the feed (which should be double the size due to the temperature being less than 38 degrees.)

Please note- a big feed will make your horse love you more. All of these people feeding "a small handful" are very very cruel.

I agree with all posters- said shetland who has to go in a field naked ALWAYS looks hungry and so I take him a large bucket of feed twice daily, I even have to take off some odd sort of muzzle thing (perhaps to help his breathing through ash cloud?) to let him eat it. I also take him table scraps when I can- he loves it! Chicken curry, rice, potato peelings, gone off jam doughnuts etc.... It warms my heart to see him scoffing it all.

I do hope the cruel OP has now been arrested and locked up- she's gone very quiet..?
