I am doing my Duke of Edinburgh bronze award in a few months and and i was told by my D of E instructor that me and my friend could do our exhibition on our horses. We really want to do this but our close friend who we were originally walking with does not have her own horse. She can ride but she has no horse to take for the walk. I’ve heard there are places that host these types of things and can provide horses for people with out them but i cant seem to find any that are near to where i live in Essex. Does anyone know any places that can provide that or has anyone done their expeditions on their horses?? x

I don't know of any places.
But i would just like to add that if you use your own horses you need to make sure they are fit enough to do the days walking for the 3 days, not just with you on their back but also carrying all of your provisions

I did my gold d of e on horseback and was so much fun would recommend to anyone

Do you have any trekking centres near you? They may be willing to help. Or if money isn't too much of an issue possibly a yard that does hunter hirelings? Although I know these can be very expensive.

Might be worth spreading the word via Facebook to see if anyone locally can help you too.

I used to run the D of E Award and a few years ago I organised a silver horseback exped.

We used Cantref Treking centre in south wales and they were very good. Could be worth contacting them.

Good Luck! Its great fun! If you don't get to do your exped on a horse, walking it is fun too! Honest! :)

Lucky you! I wanted to do my Bronze on my horse, i had a group organised, i even organised an adult that is qualified to take care of minors, that was willing to come along to supervise us on her horse for health and safety. But the d of e main person, said no, why?, because its too much hassle. So i went on the practice expedition, walking. I didn't bother going to the actual one, i just didn't find it fun. I found myself walking along and thinking of all the other fun things i could be doing. But it'd be great if you could do it on your horse! Good luck finding your friend a pony, why not advertise in local tack shops, on preloved etc?

Thank you for all your help :) and yes our horses are fit and ridden almost every day. Our expedition is for only 2 days and i have already taken my mare on a camp where we trecked through the day and then stopped of at a stable for the night so it will be no shock to her x
