I am moving to my own place soon - rented house with attached yard. The fields have post and rail fencing and i want to put a line of electric along the top to prevent chewing and leaning. I have insulators etc as already had this set up at my old place - powered by battery. My energiser can also be connected to mains, so want to have a mains connection at new place so save hassle of battery charging. Tack room and stables are in a line with yard in front and fields other side of that. My question is - how do I connect energiser to electric fencing over the gap of the yard? What sort of wire do I use to connect and where do I put it since I can't dig up yard to bury it? What is probably really simple has really stumped me!

Correct answer is to buy shielded cable and bury it, making good after. Cheaper answer is to rig up further insulators well above head height and / or a straining wire and run the fence along the line of the stables or, as has been done in ours by the previous owner, inside along the ridgeline. You just use thin rope or wire for the bits in the yard.

You need to run 'lead out cable' under ground to the fence from the energiser. You could also run this overhead if you wanted to like telegraph wire but underground is tidier. It's double insulated cable basically, here is a link to a 10m roll. If you need longer then buy a longer length don't try & join it together as you will lose some of the charge.
