Dumba$$ internet shopping question - girth

Want to buy beastie a new girth off the internet. I measured his existing one yesterday and it is 40" buckle to buckle and 37" end to end on the fabric part.

Which length do I choose when buying a new girth?

Oh such a dull question, but I am sure there is a simple answer!
