So it looks like I will be starting a new adventure in July and moving to Dumfries. I would love it if someone could give me a heads up about what it's like especially horse wise as I am umming and arring about buying vs. sharing vs. saving vs.........

Super area, there is a big indoor school somewhere near there [sorry not sure where], there is carriage driving and all the rest of it, but wait till you get there as I am sure that you will find what you want if you look around. Ask the local RC group.

Welcome to Dumfries and Galloway. A lovely area and plenty of horse activities.
We are alot further west near Stranraer but travel to compete. We have a Riding Club and there probably is one nearer you.
We event and often travel down the M6 towards Carlisle and Penrith for all the Cumbria Horse Trials (They have a facebook page) It will be much nearer for you.
My daughter probably knows more about Equestrian facilities in your area than I do, so I will ask her as soon as I get a chance.

Thanks guys I am pretty excited, I am from South Lakes originally but have been up in Aberdeen for 6 years, looking forward to being a bit closer to home and doing lots of exploring.

I have been exercising other peoples horses and grooming etc. and I am desperate to get my own horse again but it is a bit of a heart vs. head dilemma as my new job will be pretty full on sharing would be emminently more practical.

The two riding clubs that cover Dumfries area are The Galloway Horse Club and South West Scotland Riding Club (both have websites/Facebook). Barstobrick is a competition venue with large indoor school and a membership scheme ( Google BEIRC). There are quite a few livery yards in Dumfries and surrounding areas and plenty of horsey people. Feel free to PM if you want any more info.

I often travel to Dumfries & Galloway for work (office in Moffat), it's a very pretty part of the world :)
I also run the Unaffiliated XC Course Photos page on Facebook so can tell you there are quite a few xc events and hunter trials in the area as I've just been updating the calendar! :) Seen events at Raehills, Boreland Farm, Hartwood, Terally and unaff and BE at Drumlanrig.
