As the title says really!

Does anyone have a few tips on how to start on groundwork? I think my boy would really benefit from it, and I would like to learn to teach lateral work from the ground before cracking on whilst riding. (He has a small amount of lateral work established under saddle however if I can sharpen it up from the ground I think that would help the both of us!)

However. I have never really done any groundwork so I'm a bit stumped. I don't want to teach the incorrect things!

Any advice welcome :)

Do a groundwork session with a reputable instructor, it is different from the ground and takes practice, so helpful to have someone show you how?

Yes I was thinking that is probably the best route to go down.

I have a lesson on Tuesday so will ask my instructor to help.

However if anyone has any recommended reading that I can get my teeth into in the meantime that would be great!

2 books that are good visually
Schooling Exercises in Hand: Working Towards Suppleness and Confidence
Horse Training In-hand: A Modern Guide to Working from the Ground Work on the Longe, Long Lines, Long and Short Reins (like this one for the pics!)
Theres also the from foal to full grown, if I remember correctly a section in there and Lesley Bayliss also does a book?
There are loads to choose from!
However if you can long line, then you can do all the normal schooling exercises, like transitions, circles, bend, poles etc...
