my 8 1/2 month pup eats horse-poo every day.(i thought the novelty would have worn off by now lol)

i need to worm my ponies soon and wonder what i should do.

would it have any effect on him?
or should i leave him indoors?
if so,for how long?

i have read that invermectin can affect collie types.
i did enquire at my vets the the girl didn`t know anything about it and they never got back to me.

any advice please?

My dogs eat poo too, maybe they think they are helping with the poo picking lol. But my horses are due to be wormed so I would also be very interested to see what people say about this.

Id ring the helpline for the wormer - the few occasions Ive needed to call the worming companies theyve always been v helpful :)

i think there is a warning on the wormers to keep away from other animals but not sure if it is still a problem once it has been through the horses system. i have always kept my dogs away for the first day after worming and as yours is still a puppy i would be extra careful and keep him away for a couple of days...better safe than sorry!!!!

Ivermectin is lethal for collies and collie crosses with the right genetics. I'd lock him up just to be safe.

My sister-in-law's Collie X fell repeatedly ill after eating horse poop, a couple of times rather seriously. They lived on a horse farm up until last year, and it got to the point where the dog was no longer allowed free roam of the property.
