Let this be a terrible warning to all of us - NEVER EVER lose your horse's passport! We have had (are having) a complete nightmare trying to get a replacement.
It was lost when my mare went to stud. The stud completely deny that they have it. So I applied to the IHB for a replacement. They sent me a form to fill in, and a request for a euro cheque for E65. It took Nationwide 2 MONTHS to get me a Eurocheque. Sent off the application form. The IHB wrote back to say that the markings differed, so I would have to get the mare blood-typed against herself with Weatherby's Ireland. I rang them to find out more, and whilst all her whorls are exactly the same, apparently there was a very slight difference in the extent of the pink nose marking that my vet had drawn, from the original on their record. Tear hair, ring Weatherby's. Another application form and much more money. They then sent a blood-testing kit, which my vet had to come and use. (More money). Vet sent sample off to Weatherby's Ireland. No news. Rang them this morning and they said to ring the laboratory. Rang laboratory, who said that they only ran blood-testing processes every few weeks. Tore more hair, tried to remain ever so cool and calm, appealed to their finer feelings - mare about to foal, desperate for replacement passport, 'cos can't send her back to stud nor get the foal reigstered without it - and they eventually discovered that actually they were going to be running the blood samples through this week. Please could I ring them later this week?
Even if all goes to plan, they then have to send the result to Weatherby's Ireland, who send it to me, so that I can then send it BACK to the IHB ..... Aaaaarrgh!!!!
Please send all your good vibes over the Irish Sea this week so that the process does actually work and QUICKLY - otherwise I'm going to be bald and penniless.
Question : does it really have to be this much of a nightmare to get a duplicate passport?????
