<font color="purple"> Hi,

Have any of you got any tips for horses with dust allergies?

I'd really like to know what was most effective for your horse, and what wasnt.

What stable arrangements do you practice and are there any really good supplements out there in the market that stop symptoms altogether?

Thanks!

Rubber matting and dust free bedding (not any old shavings - I use easibed)
Good haylage or hay well soaked (24 hours pref)
Well ventilated stable in a well swept barn
Keeping your horse away from stables/barn whilst mucking out is going on
Grooming etc outside
Helps if neigbours are on a dust bust regime (swear if I won the lottery Id pay for everyone to go on rubber matting and easibed)
Feed from floor or haybar type thing (hay/haylage and hard feed)
Respiratory supplements - winnergy ventilate or naf respirator

And most effective of all - keep horse out as much as possible!

My mare was Copd and had a severe allergy to dust etc, on the advice from the vet, no hay not even soaked the spores are still there but fine with Horse Hage, cleaned shavings certainly no straw.out as much as possible and to feed where ever possible at floor level, so if she coughed what ever could come out easier.
She also had a course od ventipulmin which helped her with her airways.

All good advice from rforsyth1984 and also get rid of all cobwebs from your stable as they trap dust in them.

My haflinger has a dust allergy but she also like to eat her straw too!
I have tried her on absolutely everything and they all seem 'tasty' to her lol.
I make sure my hay is soaked overnight and when the coughing is at its worse i use koff syrip that i purchase from robinsons.com
If anyone has any extra advice or tips, im be happy to hear!!
