I was at the team Kür day of the European Dressage Championships in Rotterdam yesterday, where Carl Hester came out on top. Imagine my horror when in front, behind and all around me in the stands people were chattering away to each other constantly. Behind me I had to listen to three people giving each other bits of personal commentary of each test, interspersed with general chatter and laughter, in front of me people were leaning across each other to chat and laugh. In front I reckon they saw 10% of the reigning champion Totilas's test. I had difficultly at times hearing the music properly. We moved 4 times to sit in different areas of the stand, but the problem was exactly the same in each place. I was at Windsor in 2010 to see Totilas take the title. Throughout the day, people chatted between tests, but there was complete silence during each test, so we could all concentrate properly and enjoy the synchronisation of the music to the full. Rotterdam is not worth half the ticket price with such an audience.
