Well this morning i went in to his stable to put his headcollar on to take him for a ride.As soon as i tried to put the strap over his poll he started throwing his head about, at first i thought he was just been naughty but the more i tried i realised it wasn't but couldn't get hand my near it.I rang my Mum at work and she came home to help me see and we still couldn't see anything.I then rang my trainer who we also brought Dylan from and she said to twitch him and if their were and cuts or holes to clean them out and get the vet out in the morning. We've cleaned them out and the swelling has gone down.I'm really worried about him but shall we still get the vet out in the morning?

Yes, I think you should. If my memory serves me correctly (it's a long time since I did my horse anatomy, other stuff seems to have pushed it out of my brain!) there's a bursa at the poll, which could be susceptible to infection if there are cuts or scrapes. I think that's what "poll evil" is, when the bursa becomes infected. Probably better to be safe than sorry. You could phone the surgery and ask to speak to a vet, see if they think they need to come out- most vets are happy to supply a bit of help over the phone if they don't think a visit is necessary.

Let me know what they say!

Thank you!
I will ring the vets first thing are vets are really nice so they should be happy to do this!
Yeap sure i 'll tell you as soon as i know whats happening

Thank you!
Had the vet out today everything is fine she just said to give him a day or to off and then take things steady. If i notice any difference in his gaits or his behaviour to hop off straight away and call the vets.So fingers crossed everything is ok! He has just been a bit 'off' today not his normal cheeky self but he is starting to get it back

.He has been a complete angel being twitched, to let us clean the wound, for the vet considering he is only 6.The vet even said i wish they were all like him!
