As above really.
Just wondered if anyone had come across it either with their own horse or as a professional treating it?

Our horse was kicked 4 moths ago & despite joint flushing & the best veterinary care she is still lame as the bone is not healing up. Unfortunately it is where the tendon runs over it at the point of hock which is compromising the tendon healing up. I am beginning to think we may be losing the fight to save her. Any help/experiences would be appreciated.

Many, many years ago I knew a horse that had a similar injury. The joint was flushed and everything should have healed nicely but the bone was rough looking on x-ray, but no bone chips. The owner turned him away for a year on a really hilly field and he came sound during that time and then returned to full ridden work including jumping.

I've known other horses where a year or so field rest has worked, so it might be worth a shot if the horse is sound/pain free enough to happily live out in a herd for a year.

Thanks for that, Faracat. I was just concerned that if there was an underlying bone problem, it would compromise the tendon's strength, but your experience certainly sounds identical to ours :)

I think the owner thought that he was worth the risk and always had it in her mind that if he became more lame, she would PTS. Luckily he got better, although he was always a sod to hack out and sadly the year off didn't solve that problem!
