I have a huge amount of horse related stuff to sell - over 200 items including decent saddles and a trailer. A colleague at work thinks I will be unable to do this as a 'private' seller and therefore may be regarded as a trader. Is this correct? I'm simply giving up and parting will all the uneccessary gear accumulated over the past few years.

no you can be private but I suggest you list a bit at a time as if your new to it and you have loeads of stuff It can get a bit of a nightmare.

Do you have any decent travel boots or happy mouth bits PM if you do!

Who would regard you as a trader? Ebay would never do anything. It will take ages to get it all listed might be better off doing an equestrian boot sale or table top sale.

just noticed that BD are offering free classified ads at the moment - might be worth listing some better bits on there quickly while it is free! You can post photos on there as well....

You won't get very much money for the saddles unless they are a "fashionable" name. I advertised a really nice dressage saddle on there last year and had one person offer me £70, I would rather keep the saddle than sell it for silly money. Some people sell job lots, a couple of good things and some not so good things you could try doing that. If you have a list could you pm it to me please.

With any of the items like saddles, why not try them on the tack section of HH, its free to advertise?

Otherwise perhaps put together a list and circulate it but also try stabletalk - its free to advertise stuff if you aren't a trader.
I sold my trailer on ebay - it wasn't the cheapest way to do it but I did get what I wanted for it.

And Ebay isn't cheap, when you add up listing fees, final value fee, paypal charges etc, plus time, packing and working out postage costs and feedback, sometimes it isn't worth doing it.

PS can I have a copy of your list pm'd too please?

Could I have a list too please?

i see you are south east based...

free places you could put your list that i could think of....

www.adtrader.co.uk (i sold LOADS from here)
www.frogpool.com right at the bottom there is a classifieds seciton, tkae a few days for your ad to be added though

www.speedgatesaddlery.co.uk has a message board

You can list all the items as a private seller on ebay. i sell loads on there, however with such a great deal to sell (and expensive items like saddles / trailers, you will want to put on a reservce or higher start price - both = higher seller fee's for you to pay) you are going to incur lots of sellers fee's listing everything.
Although time consuming i would personally go down the free classifieds route - also put up a list in your local tack/feed merchants notice board. and put off listing on ebay for a few weeks if you possibly can - just to give the 'free' selling option a chance you may only get rid of some stuff but will end up getting more money with 0 advertising fee.

p.s. if youve got anything ponyfied / small i'd like to see a list too thanks !! :-)

Have you thought of selling your trailer to your local dealer (if you have one). When I bought mine, they put in writing that they would buy it back at the same price if I was to sell it (no time limit stated). It might be worth a phone call to them.

If you do have a list, can you PM one to me too.
