Whats peoples views on E&L Horse Insurance? I didnt find one good review about them and must admit i had bad dealings with them in the past. Nethertheless i decided to go with them when i bought my new horse as they were so cheap and never expected to claim so soon. When i needed to (6weeks after!!) i was dreading it!!

However they have been so good! no questions asked theyve paid for almost everything for my horse (and totalling to hell of alot!!) Ok so they are a bit slow at sending out payments etc and you can hardly ever get hold of them on the phone but when i did they were really sympathtic and agreed to most things over the phone.

Just thought Id give them a bit of credit as they were so good :) Has anyone else had simular experiences.

Never had any dealings with them and after reading so many posts on here about them, mostly all negative, I never would have any dealings with them, I couldn't afford to take the risk of them not paying out.

Glad you had a good experience though and hope the ned is mended.

just reading the title as said to my self, uh oh! them again!
iv never heard one good word about them including my experience with them. usually when you mention e&l to a vet they would rather run a mile then go through a claim with them. they are extremley slow at paying out and try and go through every single nook and crany so they dont have to pay out. my ponys very minor operation came to £700 and it took 6 months for them to pay out after every single thing they could pick at to try and get out of paying. my friend has just recently claimed for a foot abcess and they did the same with her, but she works for an insurance company working with insurance policys everyday so they didnt win that one!

PMSL you must be their one and only satisfied customer!

Yep thankfully and hopefully hes on the mend just started back in light work after surgery and we will know more when he goes back to the clinic in October - Who are you all insured with then ?? was thinking of looking else where, but worried no one else will insure him now we have claimed so much - and my policy has only gone up by £3 this year!

Although cant help but think i just got lucky and maybe next time ill not be so lucky

All I can say about them is that they made the already awful decision of having to put down my 6year old, truly horrific.

Also was slightly disgusted on arrival at Liphook a few weeks ago that the sign in info sheet has a separate paragraph stating that if you are with E&L they must be notified before any emergency treatment is undertaken.

I had endless claims on my old horse and although they were slow and I had to appeal they did pay out.Just couldnt go through all the hassle again plus not getting through on phone lines was very frustrating didnt want same with new horse so opted for another company.:p

I've said a nice word or two about them in the not too distant past.

We have had dealings with them, both in the past and more recently. Our past dealings were diabolical, more recently they have been excellent.

I don't know what has brought about this change, possibly an exodus of customers, but they are much better these days.

If in doubt, contact a member called Claims Manager, he is their....claims manager, and was extremely helpful with our last two claims.

yep thats definatly true, I always asked to speak to him and managed to get his direct number - he was brillent and able to confirm most things over the phone. My vets also said that they only speak to him at E&L as he got things sorted right away. I must admit speaking to anyone else was a nightmare.

Its definatly better this time round and i think if you read the small print carfully in your policy they cant get away of not paying. Theyve also paid out on numerous occassions for my friends horse in the last couple of years, although they are slow - something has definatly changed for the better. I will be renewing my policy with them :) x

I wouldnt insure my horses with them, ive heard too many bad things, Ive always gone with NFU and they have been great.

At our local vets they wont wait for payment from E&L you have to pay the fees then get reimbursed by them yourself.

This cant be very expensive!
A horse i know has just had a big operation, god knows how thr owner e is going to pay the vets fees.

I had my horse insured with them but never claimed, so didn't have experience with that as such. But I emailed them to cancel last week and requested email confirmation of this, so I could start my new insurance, and I heard nothing. Called them yesterday just to be told it was cancelled last week and they'd sent me a letter! Well that's great when I asked for email confirmation! Was a bit peeved as I didn't know he wasn't covered...

I am currently insured with E&L and my vet wont wait for payment from them. I renewed my policy, but got it cheaper than last years as I said I was thinking of leaving them. Only problem is they will exclude my horse's Sarcoid from September (typical and unfair) so next month having vet out to check my boy over.
I did claim last year but didnt reach past the excess.I did complain to their boss and had a nice email explaining why.

If they were as BAD as all that, they wouldnt still be in buissiness.

i lost my youngster because of collic in may and they gave me the full value of him and cost for disposal and euthanasia no hassle they just wanted a independant valuation and vets records and passport.so im sticking with them

Ive been with them for over 10 years with my horse. In the pastd Ive had to claim couple of times no problems took some time to pay out. The lastd one was couple of years ago for £2,256 all for a foot abscess. The only thing that caused a problems was the stabeing fee I did phone them up to say that he staying there and would he be coverd yes made sure it was on my fille too. It did take a couple phones calls to get it sortd. It was all fully paid up in the end!!

AFAIK they used to be independant and are now owned by petplan.... recently they seem to be getting a better rep....
although my vets wont use them... which still says a lot!

I have had both proffesional and personal dealings with E&L and have encountered a number of problems. There are so many other insurance companies out there and ALL of them have a better reputation than E&L. Why take the risk?

I ve never heard a good thing about them (apart from the comments today). Someone I know has never been paid out in full from them (yet still uses them). They were even on a watchdog type programme not too long back about not paying out for wedding insurance. We had a letter from our vet saying that they would need paying up front if you were insured by them. Cannot understand why anyone would use them. I ve had a 7k vet bill and cannot imagine the worry I would have had if I was fighting for this as well as looking after a sick horse. I'm with Petplan and I pay quite a bit but seeing as I ve had about 10k off them I think it ll take me a while to pay them back.

All the other insurance companies are double the monthly price. I did have to pay livery fees whilst my horse was at a clinic and they refused to pay out for cosequin at £150 a tub! however I cant grumble ive paid them in total around £150 and theyve paid me £6000! thats why i will be staying with them and only paying £24 per month..xx

I had two horses with them a few years ago, lost both of them with in 6 weeks, they were brill, paid out on both of them. Had a old horse insured with pet plan 4 ten years and never got a any penny out of them. So now i have insured my new horse with E & L again

They are linked to that school where you can take your horse.

Have also never heard they are owned by petplan and would be very surprised if that is correct.

I have had dealings with them, took me over a year for a very straight forward claim to be resolved, when they finally gave up trying to wrangle out of paying. ( horse was found dead with a broken neck in the field after a thunder storm )

So no I would NEVER insure a horse with them again!
