Over the last 2 days my horse has reared twice, most unusual behaviour for him. After rearing on the second occasion he fell in his stable. He got up and fell again. After the initial shock of falling he was fine, up on his feet, eating and undisturbed. For background he has been on box rest for 4 weeks now after injuring his left leg.
This morning when I went to see him he was holding his head at a strange angle and looks drowsy. On examining his head he had discharge (clear, unoffensive, oily in feel) coming from his left ear. His falling then appeared to make sense as often infections in the ear can cause inbalance.
The vet has provided some antibiotics and he is on danilon for any pain he might be in.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to anything else I should do? Particularly how to prevent these things in the future?
