I have a 4 year old pedigree chihuahua dog which has had ear mites on and off from being a puppy.
I've had him backwards and forwards to the vets, used various drops/antibiotics etc and it just doesnt seem to clear up.
its better sometimes than others but when its bad he gets really distressed and it upsets me.
the last time i was at the vets they said it would prob never go away and it would get to the point where he would have to be put down which of course sent me in floods of tears!
he's a lovely little dog and i want to try everything i possibly can as most of the time his ears arent that bad and he's a happy little chap.

any ideas or advice?

If it is ear mites, then monthly spot ons with Advocate will deal with it for good..if you have a cat as well, then treat that too.Cats are often the infection source for ear mites.

Look for Thornit on PetMeds, it's unlicensed and it is strong stuff but a lot of people swear by it for dogs, cats and small pets.

Don't be afraid to get a second opinion, my old vet argued me black and blue my dog had mites but it was just a recurring ear infection triggered by allergies. Epi-otic ear wash has been really effective for him.
