ear mites ????occasional head shake

My pony has just had his teeth checked and had broken one of his teeth . This now seems fine but when his ridden he does this very occasional head shake which carries on for a few mins and then stops . He does it out hacking and schooling. Yesterday he threw a real paddy -half rearing and left ear flat back . I did check his ears as best i could and they are very waxy/scurfy ...I did wonder if he had ear mites . Any one know anything about these

Yeah - you can get drops from your vet - but often they do not work too well and the best thing is get vet to sedate, fold the ear back and thoroughly clean it out with an insecticidal solution
