hi, one of the horses at work doesnt like his ears being touched, hes only 2 and great to handle other wise so i thought it may be ear mites, after a battle today i managed to get hold of an ear and some fly like bugs fell out and i could see loads more in there! eeugh! the poor fella, i will ask the vet when she comes tomorow to AI one of the mares just wondered what the treatment is i assume some form of drop to the ear?

If they are small biting black flies, then you can apply benzyl benzoate to the ear using cotton wool (of course easier said than done if they are sore!!)

they sound like biting flies. I get a cotton wool ball with some Pettifer's or Lincoln Green Oil on and wipe it inside the ear. Heals the bites and stops further bites, apply daily. Easier said than done though if your horse wont let you touch her ears!
