Ear mites?

My horse has black specks in the inside of his ears, and I presume these are earmites? They are really irritating him; he usually doesn't mind you fiddling with his ears, but at the moment he gets very annoyed if you try to.

Any advice?

do the specks move? might just be dirt and they are sore/scratchy for him. depends if he will be still enough to let you look! i know mine wouldnt hehe x

They might be little specks of blood. We have got those horrible little balck flies around at the moment that bite in their ears and around the mares teats. The have little black specks of dried blood where they have been bitten. His ears might be sore.
