My pony is particularly spooky on windy days and is sensitive to noise hacking, for example, lorries or rattling trailers etc. Im working on getting him used to things slowly and taking my time, im in no rush with him but had an interesting conversation with my friend the other day who suggested something call ear pomms??

Apparently ear plugs for horses, the idea is that it stops wind getting in their ears so less spooky and dulls noise of rustling leaves/traffic etc.

now im all for giving things a go if I thought it would help but surely if you take hearing away this makes them even more spooky if they cant hear properly so they use there eyes even more?? or is it really a case of being able to settle them??

any ideas?

Ear plugs work for some horses. Does he show any improved behaviour in a fly mask with ears on tho? You do have to train them into wearing ear plugs.
Most ponies have pretty ferociously hairy ears inside though... could be tricky siting the plugs.

My cob has the worlds hairiest ears and plugs work well on him... And he was v dangerous in the past (utter nutter ) they didn't fix the problem but they helped a lot with the training it out of him

In the free magazine EQUITRADER there is always a page written by Brian Seddon he is a ex mounted police man,as far as I know police horses are trained to except noise whilst being fed.
You can contact Brian on tel 0797 7097 121 or www equinesolutions.co.uk
Not sure where you are ,but hope this may help.
