Ear problem

My minature pony has developed a real problem with her ear
.She was fine yesterday but this morning was frantic,trying to rub it etc.
She has settled but wont let me anywhere near to get a look.
Not sure if she has a seed or something in it,has banged it or got an infection. Have got vet coming to have a look and suspect she will need sedating. Any ideas ,?

Might be that she has flies in it. My boy gets lots of little flies that attach themselves to the inside of his ear and suck the blood. I clean it out the best i can (he hates me touching his ears!) and then apply a thick layer of sudocreme or vaseline so the flies can't get to his skin
