Does anyone else hate doing the same walk two days running?
I appreciate it isn't an option for other people but I can't abide it, even if it means reversing the direction of the walk I did the previous day.

My mum does the same walk all the time and never varies it, that would drive me bonkers!
Although I appreciate it makes the dogs calmer as they are not so 'on their toes' and looking for new and interesting small furries and smells which have cropped up over previous days, like they do when I take them out

I know they probably don't care as long as they get out, but I like to think they like the variety as much as I do.
I am actually sitting now wondering where we should go today

So, what kind of walker are you - creature of habit, or chop-and-changer?

I like to vary my "set out in the car" walks, but if walking from home I have no choice, there is only one reasonably safe route, at least for the first mile or so

God yes - I hate it and my Lab does too. I do two long walks a day and am lucky enough to have a large number of routes to choose from. Tend not to repeat a route within three days.

During the week Otto normally has to get the same walk in the morning, as we walk him before OH goes to work and have a limited about of time. Usually we vary it a weekends and every Sunday we try to take him somewhere completely new.

Ditto. Walk from home is pretty much the same as no other choice, however we vary going out in the car, and we have a large arboretum about 20 minutes drive away which we vary our walk around (usually because I'll take different trails and get completely lost !!)

I'm really lucky in that I have lots of different walks all within 15 minutes car journey.
If I have to walk from home I still have a few variying routes I can do.
I really do get bored doing the same route every day.
Mind you, I have noticed that a pattern is appearing with Skye in that it seems to be when we do an unfamiliar walk is when I have more problems with her behaviour.
I will get to the bottom of her mind eventually (ever hopeful)

I can't stand it either. We're very lucky though that there are numerous routes around us and loads of footpaths, bridleways, moors to walk on so we need never be on a road if we don't want.

We have a couple of favourites (generally involving fields, rivers and throwing toys) but we're getting a bit bored at the moment as there's only about 2 walks that aren't over welly deep in mud, and the rivers are to full and fast for safe swimming. I don't mind putting wellies on, but steep muddy hills in wellies is asking for face plant/sitting in muddy puddle, and I don't really want that!

Usually the same during the week, especially now the evenings are dark because there's only one route with streetlights. On the weekends, or on my days off, we go out over the bridlepaths and vary our route a bit. I wish I had a car so I could take them to the woods or something for a bit of variety, but I don't think they'd fare well on the back of my moped!

I don't drive and even if I did, I wouldn't drive my dogs somewhere only for one of their daily walks, on a regular basis. Both because of the environment, cost of fuel and f.ex. let's say that it takes me 15 minutes to drive there and 15 minutes home, for me that time would have to be taken from the walking time, meaning that my dogs would get 30 minutes less walking time.
(ETA If I lived where MurphysMinder lives, with only one safe option, I would probably go nuts and reconsider trying to get a driving licence and a car.)

As it is, I can choose between 5 ways to begin a walk from the city home, 3 of them includes walking on roads/pavements. In the summer house I have 3 options when I begin a walk, 2 includes walking on the road.

Admittedly there is days when it feels boring before we begin a walk but usually it feels better once we're on our way, besides for the longer walks there is still areas that I haven't explored completely. The only thing is that those not yet explored areas is now more than 30 minutes up to 1 hours walk away from home, so that first 30 minutes or more must be walked along trails we have already walked before.

But as far as my dogs is concerned, they act the same on walks at home like they do on the few occasions when we do drive somewhere and they get to go for a little walk in a new place.

They are self-confident Spitzes you know, they don't lose their head in excitement over new surroundings only like that.

Is it really bad of me to admit that in the 9 years I have lived here I only took Jasper out for a walk 3 times?

Now, let me explain what I mean by that...

We live on a farm, 250 acres. I only ever walked Jasper, and now Bess, over the farm. Very rarely walked them "in the street" as we don't have a street....just a narrow and windy country lane.

I did take him in the car a couple of times to the local Nature Reserve (only 5 mins by car) and walk the stone tracks as it was cleaner than muddy fields.

I am determined to get Harvey well used to travelling though and plan to pop him in the car most days for one of his walks, when I take the kids to school.
