My lovely little horse does have a horrid habit of lying / rolling in his own poo over night in the stable, and washing his stable rug is a bit of a trial as it only just fits in the washing machine - and I haven't even put his thick weight rugs on yet this year!!

WOndering if anyone knows of a company that makes an easilyy washable waterproof / water repelling stable rug top sheet that i could put over his rug to bear the brunt of his hippo like wallowing/!?!?

Top tips sought - surely I can't be the only one with this problem??

Just use a turnout rain sheet
Gave up with indoor rugs years ago and now only use turnout rugs. Only need to clean them once at the end of the winter at the most and they stop the pee from staining. Easy!

The easiest thing I find is to have only lightweight stable rugs. That way I can wash them once a week in my own washing machine to keep them clean. I have a 100grm rambo duo liner and ontop of that I put a 100 grm weetherbeater stable rug or my medium weight 200grm Horsewear amigo stable rug. I find it much more convenient this way and you can add or remove as the weather changes and without causing too much bulk as well.

The Amigo stable rug has a detachable neck cover which makes life easy as well. My horse takes 6ft 9" rugs and I have no problem getting them in my machine.

he has lots of different liners from his premier equine combination turn out rug. I guess I could use a variety of those liners as base layers (i have a few different weights) and put a thin stable rug on top. would be nice to find something that the muck didn't get ground into / soak through but prhaps no one makes what I am after?!

I've used Amigo 600 lightweight turnouts on top of stable rugs for years. Really does save the rugs and easy to pop in washing machine. Plus if you're not fussed about the colour, they can usually be picked up for under £30.

I just leave their turnout rugs on, ddon't bother with stable rugs anymore. I used to take mine to thee laundrette to wash them as the machines are bigger.

Ditto above re amigo lw rain sheets - fabulous things - I use them as a top sheet over turn outs to save her expensive rugs! They wash really well in washing machine - I use rug wash the rug re-proof
Also adds another waterproof layer for those days when the rain is non-stop
