Easy way to pull shoes off

Hellp.

My ned was shod today and hes come in lame from field. Im pretty sure its not nail bind, as ned has big feet and farrier has been cutting them back shorter and shorter. His feet look way to short. Ive got some pliers but how do I pull the nails up?? Ive not got any farrier tools. Really annoyed because hes only just recovered from a corn. Not sure whether to change farriers too because Im not happy he keeps cutting them really short.

Change farriers - you will not be able to get them off with pliers. I would tell you a way to get them off with regular tools, however not sure I trust the average horse owner to try.

You have to hammer up/clip off the ends of the nails (that come through the wall of the hoof) before pulling the nails out. Not sure pliers will do the trick though.

as above however if shoe just put on it will be very difficult (although my horse has perfected doing just this!!!!). bets bet is to phone a farrier and get him to do it he would also be able to tell you if its nail bind as it would be quite likley seeing as its after shoeing if it was the trimming it would be likley that your horse would be lame on all feet.

Thanks Loopylucifer I rang my farrier he said to leave it till tomorrow and see how he is then. He reckons its because hes pulled the feet back but Im not sure.

is he jsut footy or is he LAME. if he is foot it is suggesting he has been trimmed a little short in which case, taking the hoses off will make is a damn sight worse and therefore it is better to leave them. If he is lame i would be thinking Nail bind or tight shoe, and i would remove the shoe however i think you should clal your farrier to do this, and while he is here i would also ask him to show to correctly how to remove a shoe in am emergency.

If you think your farrier is cutting the hoof back too far, ask your farrier about it, he will be happy to explain to you wy he does this as there is probably a reason. If he will not explain or he says they are not short, post us some picture of them.
