I'm thinking of trying my mare in boots so I can do some hacking while she has her shoes off for the winter without wearing her feet too much. I like the look of easyboot gloves and renegades. Does anyone have any experience of either brand or tips on how to get a good fit?

No Idea on Renegades. Gloves are great so long as they fit! My share fella has a pair but his hoof wall has tightened up and they no longer fit so I'm selling them. I've replaced them with Old Macs which are bulkier and uglier but they are more forgiving with the fit and are working for us :)

If you want gloves I'd strongly recommend hiring the fit kit (£5 plus refundable deposit) from The Saddlery Shop to ensure you choose the correct size :)

I have just bought the cavallo boots from Robinsons....A...MAZE...ING!!
Way better than the Old Mac....and they have drainage holes....and are an excellent fit.
Good luck :)

I use the renegades and have no complaints so far for my round footed pony, tried in mud, gravel, hard ground, not amazing grip on wet grass but otherwise I'm really happy with them, they haven't rubbed even when on long rides that started wet and muddy. I haven't tried any others. Only downside was having to collect from delivery people as they had a VAT charge or something extra to pay on top of what i paid when I ordered them so wouldn't deliver them.

Thanks for the info. Ali2, I didn't realise you could get the fitting kit in the UK so thats great to know. KatPT, my horse has round feet so sounds like renegades could fit OK. Thanks again.

iv just got a set of gloves for my tb, but struggling to get one foot fitted! Its cheaper to get the fit kit from equine pidiotry (sp) supplies. Its £55 and if returned as recieved you recieve £50 deposit back so only a fiver for the fit kit.

The Saddlery Shop only charge a fiver too - the deposit is greater but not the actual admin cost :) Is the EP supplies kit the full 11 shell set?

Mclelkat - if your horse has round feet then you'll probably need wide gloves not standard :)

I did some checking and the EP kit is 3 boots - the size you think will be OK and one size on each side, which explains the higher deposit. I agree the wide type will probably be best and its certainly worth getting a kit to try. Next time she's due for a trim I'll order one and see if it works. Thanks to all responders.
