I am going to be starting the backing process with my youngster this summer. I am thinking of a treeless saddle. My instructor has found a few different ones for sale. I quite like the look of the easytrek saddle. I know older models get a bad review but wondered about the new version.

I like the look of smart saddles but they are tok expensive. The saddle needs to have a twist to it so its narrow. I find barefoot saddles too wide

I started mine in a Smart Saddle as he was a difficult shape to fit. It was not a success! Once I had changed to a Torsion, we made good progress. Smart saddles are good at their marketing but I can't see how the price is justified. They seem pretty low tech to me. - stick on panels and velcro. Horse is now in a treed saddle but the Torsion treeless was great for his early days and felt really secure. Not great for rider position but good for starting a young horse. Torsion are not a narrow twist but I didn't find that a problem, and I usually get sore hips if too wide.

There will be lots of feedback on them. Treeless designs needs to be cleverly designed to give a decent twist but, with the way I approach fitting the rider by first fitting their pelvis, something with more options for fitting the rider may be more useful.

I bought one a few years ago when I was bringing on my young cob. He hated it. It didn't mould to his back like they said it would and I ended up selling it on at quite a loss. I went back to using the Thorn pad I'd bought for my Exmoor and still use that today! I do include a hip saver to introduce some twist, but you can ride in them without.

I am. I want a English style and most of the ones recommend are most western style. Ghost is a popular choice but i don't like the look of them. I liked the look of easytrek and its a decent price

If I can't find a treeless I will just get a traditional saddle. I don't want just a pad. Its not for me

Have you looked at the Heather Moffett vogues or flexees? Not too bad a price if secondhand. I have the dressage vogue for my older horse and looking to buy the GP version for my youngster who is currently away being backed.
