Eating grass - stress?

After examining Cuddles' arse (thought it was his anal glads as he did look like he was emptying them) I ended up having to pull out about 6 strands of thick gloopy grass out of him that were stuck.

He eats grass alot, more than any other dog I've known. I'm sure it's not his diet - his poos are a nice size and not very soft. I've experimented with different foods like JWB, nature diet etc and now trying out Symply (not raw, yet, I'm thinking about putting him on this when we move) and he does get bones some days. I've always kept him on the foods for long periods so if there was any change, I would have spotted it.

I've had a feeling it may start to be because of some sort of stress, but even if we hardly interact or do anything on a walk and just mooch along he'll still nibble at it. I say stress because I've noticed when we walk with other dogs it can increase, and also it occured to me some time ago once when I was trying to get him to retrieve a ball that he didn't want as much as the one I had in my hand, he instantly went into total avoidance and instantly started eating grass.

Anyone have any thoughts/previous experience on this? I've just googled it but not come up with much. Perhaps it is the diet afterall....hmm, any thoughts!!?

All of our dogs have eaten grass! Lots of dogs do it.
Mine do it particularly on a morning walk before they've had anything to eat.
People do point to it being because of a dietary insufficiency but it's hard to know.

All my dogs have done it, they tend to do it more if they have upset tums for some other reason, but they just do it anyway. I don't worry about it except when I have to remove a particularly unpleasant bit lodged in the rear end

Hmm, okay I know most dogs did it but he just does it SO MUCH! perhaps I'm thinking too much into it, and I've never actually had to pull any out before! thanks!
