????? Wasn't expecting this one!
I've bought half a ton of pellets and put it down yesterday, horses are not in overnight every night yet but he came in to eat dinner and have his rugs checked. I went to get feeds and when I came back horse was tucking into his bed!
I'm hoping he was just trying something new?! Otherwise I'm thinking serious colic risk in the sugar beet style?
Anyone else experienced this?

My 3 have tasted is and the shock on there faces was funny as they were trying the shake it out of their mouths.

Maybe try putting the hose in the bag 1st so the fluff up out of the pellet/nut shape?

Both mine sniffed, tasted then spat it out! Never even looked at it since.

Did you activate it well before putting the horses in?

yeah my horse did that as well except she carried on eating them! must have a thing for wood.. mmm. but seriously though i have to soak the bags each time i put them in where other people dont bother once their stable is set up. Anyone would think i starve my horse!

Put a capful of disinfectant with the water when you start a new bed. For topping up, just mix it in well with the old, peed on bed

Like this idea!
It's not unheard of then, he's been back in today and not bothered so hopefully a one off.
Question 2! How do you all manage the beds? I've put 7 bags in and yes mostly activated it but there are still visible but fatter pellets in the bed, is this ok?
I take out the poo and then it said mix any wet back in, will this not stink?

Green Gloop is excellent for mixing with the water, kills ammonia & is animal friendly :-) I don't mix wet back in, I just skip out daily & take wet out about once a week. If it gets a bit dry I water with green gloop solution. I've tried all ways and this works best for me.

I just switched to straw pellets from wood pellets today, having done a trial with two of my horses. My mare walked in and immediately started eating them so I filled a watering can with water and a couple of capfull of Green Gloop to sprinkle over the bed and it stopped her.
