ebay buyers! daft question?

If you have listed it with a starting price and not put a reserve on it, the least it will go for is the starting price.

If you have listed it with a starting price and not put a reserve on it, the least it will go for is the starting price.

well you and i think alike then, one person messaged me 'what is the least you will take for it?' another asked 'will you take £250 including courier as its my birthday present from my boyfriend?' that would be equivalent to giving someone i don't know £130 as a birthday gift:rolleyes:

why do they think i would do that?

Have you listed a "best offer"?

If not they are breaking ebay rules by trying to buy it outside the auction and you should report them to ebay.

Depends what it is and how old, condition etc. If you know it's a good price stick to there or abouts I have a really comfy armchair Ideal saddle that's going on soon and I will stick close within 10% of my price as I know it's worth that much. If I don't sell this year I will go again in spring when folk are gearing up for the new season.

Thing is you will have to pay ebay and paypal about £40 in fees on a sale price of £350 if it even sells first time....so she might be thinking what will you take for a quick cash deal?

Unless you have opted for the 'Best Offer' facility on the listing then you can't end the listing and accept less than the minimum price, without defrauding eBay of their fees, which understandably they wish to prevent people doing (why should they give you free advertising?) it's up to you if you wish to risk doing this of course.

Be cautious of dealing with people outside eBay as you will have no protection if they mess you about.

If it doesn't sell at the current price you can re-list at a lower price next time. Or sell it elsewhere.

I just wanted to say beware of people contacting you "outside" of ebay and offering you good/decent money for your saddle...please dont give them your address to collect (arrange to meet them somewhere public) as ive heard recently of people offering good money for you to take valuable items off Ebay, then arranging a time to collect from your house and then they break in and take the goods during the night.

People on ebay always do that, i've had offers on everything costing anything from £10 even! People will try anything to get a deal. Dont do it, leave the auction to run.

i am leaving it to run, i have offered the asking price for cash and immediate collection before but £130 below the asking price is taking the pee.

they wont be collecting from my house but from my friends pub if they collect as i am selling 4 saddles. not that they would have much luck breaking in with my 3 dogs here.

I sell my extras on preloved, the latests is ....what will you sell it cheap as possible price.

A) I set a fair price
B) if you can't afford it, don't bother asking.....

That sounds harsh but £60 worth of coat is not going to be sold for a tenner plus p+ p..... Fraid I did not answer that message....

I love eBay, we've brought our house, gifts, horse stuff, baby stuff and dining table etc from it, and I sell a lot of stuff. But I do think their fees are a bit steep. I'm not worried about people coming to my house to collect large items which they've won on eBay. I would just avoid anyone contacting you and asking to buy it now, you can always say you want to let the auction run and if it doesn't sell then your email them back.

You could always misunderstand the question and tell them that if they wanr a buy it now price ebay rules say it has to be 25% more than the start price of the auction and ask if they are still interested interested :D and then tick the box to show the question which will put off other people from asking the same thing.

I always list with a starting price which is the minium I would to take for it and state that on the listing in red, then everyone know where they stand. People will ask if you will take cash for a quick sale but most of the time your better let it run to the end. My last item made £120 more than someone offered for it.
I have also listed an expensive stealable item recently. I just make sure all communication is done through e-bay, make sure I am not alone when someone views and I have two large dogs.
I have bought and sold on e-bay for years and the only problems I have ever had are with cars which seem to attract buyers who have no idea how an auction works and sellers out to make a fast buck, so look at their feedback carefully.
