eBay lorry- too good to be true/scam or bargain of the century

I'm looking for a little lorry and came across an advert online (not eBay) for a lovely little box but it seemed a bit cheap.
I emailed anyway on the off chance they still had it and they do.
However apparently the ladies husband has died and she needs it gone to cover bills she's left with BUT she's had a dodgy buyer- fake notes and is scared to let anyone else to the house to view.
So she listed it as a private auction on eBay and sent me a invitation to but it now.
This is something eBay does- only invited people can buy at first.
PayPal do this payment after receiving the goods, so the money would leave my account 14 days after the lorry is delivered.
The correspondence from her is all slightly oddly written and sounds weird.
It's a scam right?!
 
I know the BD website have had a few dodgy adverts for lorries just before Christmas and they were all pulled by the Administrator. I guess if it is too good to be true then it probably is
 
Ask her to meet you in a neutral place - local supermarket carpark was a favourite of mine - so that you can see the lorry first. Then, if you like it and all the paperwork is correct, you could arrange an immediate bank transfer to her account.

If she doesn't want you to see it it's a scam. If she'll let you see it then take someone with you who knows about vehicles.
 
It will more than likely be a scam. I came across one when I was looking for me 3.5t lorry.

The correspondence being oddly written is a good sign of a scam.

As Herts05 says - if it sound to good to be true, it usually is.
 
Almost certainly a scam - if it's too good to be true and all that but if she's local ish why not offer to meet her in a big supermarket car park in the day time to view - she shouldn't have any problem with that - then if you like it you can do the paypal/ ebay thing.
Does she have a lot of ebay feedbacks?
 
The meeting her somewhere is a great idea. I could still pay via paypal I suppose also if that's what she wants.
However looking at the listing I see it's in Scotland! I'm Glos so that's a very long way- it was originally listed as Glos also and on a local trader site.
She has a feedback score of 400 all positive but all private.
 
I'd never buy a vehicle from a private seller without seeing it first. There are tonnes of vehicle scams going on right now, So arrange that you view it then pay by paypal (if paypal is her wish). If she refuses that, there is no deal imo.

I am in scotland so if its near me i don't mind taking a look ;) ( not that I know much about lorries but i can spot a real one from a non existant one :D )

Also, have you google image searched the picture? to see if it has came from another ad? :)
 
I think the AA do a pre purchase check on lorries or certainly a private garage local to ger would do so, they could meet her and do their pre purchase check on your behalf
TBH it's be worth doing that anyway so you know what you're buying - older second hand lorries can be big money pits unless you are very mechanical yourself and can fix stuff yourself.
 
Have you tried to find the photographs through google images - that will usually lead you to the original listing. We found a scam for an equitrek trailer, they offered to deliver it and when I googled the images was able to contact the original seller who told us they had sold it over 12 months ago. This was a definite scam and eventually we had it removed from eBay. ask to speak to them on the phone, they will then tell you that they are either hard of hearing or have had an operation on their ears.
 
ITS A SCAM!! Step away. I bet this eBay invitation came directly to your email.....check your eBay messages, if there isn't the same message there then the email did NOT come from eBay. It is a hoax one that has been very cleverly done by scammers.
The money does not come out of your account 14 days later it goes straight away & you don't see your money or Horsebox again.
It's a common scam with cars as these links show

God, its so clever, looks exactly like an ebay page but no the item doesn't exist and there is nothing in my messages.
How would that have worked with paypal though?
I figured too good to be true but it all sounded so convincing!

I bet she'd state right at the last minute, when he/she thinks she's got you properly suckered they would claim either a problem with their paypal or the fees would be too much so would you do bank transfer.
Or
I suspect that because it's a fake eBay invoice this would be classed as an automobile purchased outside of eBay which isn't covered by their payment protection. So they can withdraw money & be gone.

Call her bluff, tell her you are really keen to get the Horsebox ASAP & can you call her on the phone to discuss paying straight away. I bet there will be some pathetic reason why she can't talk on the phone.

I replied to a similar advert last year with the same story its a scam stay away, I had several emails from this person trying to get me to pay for it through ebay, when I said I wanted to see the box the emails turned a bit stroppy.

I had this same email sent to me too, do you have a link to the advert? It could be the same lorry I was looking at.
 
I don't have a link I can't find it now- it was a 3.5 ton Vauxhall race master box in blue £5000.
I'm going to ask her to ring me! - I suspect "she" is a day hairy bloke sat rubbing his hands in glee! What a ar@@ hole!
I will try and find a link- certainly could name and shame as I have her email altho' probably all fake
 
Definitely a scam,i also emailed her and she said the same to me,ive reported the ad to friday ads where i saw it advertised. There is also a few others on there that look too good to be true
