thanks to everyone who replied to my post about ebay today.

Unfortunately the saddle broke 62 days after purchase and ebay don't want to know. I'm carrying on pursuing ebay customer services and the seller because I really don't think its okay.

I hadn't thought of trying paypal so I'll contact them as well

my husband ordered a new computer several weeks ago and the delivery company are lying saying that they came to deliver it and we weren't in. Its a complete lie.

The whole thing is putting me right off internet shopping, if I'd bought the saddle from a shop I'd be in there making a scene until they gave in.

Ebay dont give the same protection. Was it a business seller?

If you paid via debit/credit card then contact your bank. You could contact the seller and say you will be going to the police or trading standards.

If you payed by credit card get straight onto them, they will go about claiming it back for you as they have loaned you the money and it is actually them that own the item purchased until you have payed the balance owing,i was told this by trading standards when i had trouble with a rug!!!Debit card unfortunately you have no chance with the bank as it is your money you have used!

it was a business seller which means there is no excuse, if you make your living by buying and selling you should do so within the regulations.

I've just looked on the trading standards website and it says that if an item becomes faulty within the first six months of sale then it is the trader's responsibility to prove that there was no problem. in that the leather is clearly defective I think I've got them. I haven't told trading standards who the company are at the moment because I'm not making a formal complaint but I'm ready to do so.

Shabby ebay company chose the wrong person to mess with...

I would make a complaint, you might have to ship the saddle back but at least you would get your money back for the saddle!

Are you going to name and shame on HHO?!

ebay seller have replied to today's email by saying that they have spoken to trading standards regarding my saddle. They claim that as the saddle was sold without out warranty and with a 7 day refund policy that I am not able to claim outside of this period. I can't believe that's right? Yes, if I wanted to change it because it didn't fit but it shouldn't apply to items that break.

She is claiming that the only way the item could have broken was if it was put under exceptional strain. I weigh about 10st and do mostly flatwork and hacking, hardly exceptional strain on a 17.5" saddle.

Its not about the money, yes I could afford to buy a new saddle but I don't see why I should have to. She is selling shoddy goods with potentially serious consequences.

Can anyone that knows about these things tell me if she's right that I'm screwed if the saddle didn't come with a warranty?

Please don't feel that all online traders are like the two examples you've had run ins with. I run a mail order and internet company and we are totally honest and our customer service is the best we can provide. eBay is a different matter altogether in my opinion as the people selling on there are usually not professional retailers and many of them will be selling shoddy or even stolen goods. Unlike bona fide retailers many are not VAT registered and pay no tax. To my mind this is completely wrong and it can be asking for trouble to deal with them.

The crucial question is - did you pay by credit card? If you did there may be something that you can do to get reimbursed.

Don't tempt me. Shabby seller and her faulty yet expensive saddles deserves it but I'm still hoping to resolve the matter so I don't want to antagonise her too much.

That and I've never yet had slapped wrists from admin.

If anyone wants to know I guess a pm couldn't hurt...

I think they are trying to scare you into not claiming, there is no harm in trying.

If it was a 2nd hand saddle then it would be different.

Silly as it sounds I'm morally opposed to the idea of credit cards. I only pay for things when I have the money in my account to afford them. I really dislike the aggressive marketing of credit cards to people that can't afford them and end up in massive amounts of debt.

All this said I'm wishing that we had paid for the saddle and the computer on credit cards now

Have you contacted the manufacturer of the saddle?

RE: the computer, are they saying that the computer was actually delivered and accepted by someone? If so, find out who signed for it. If not, get them to redeliver...if they won't, don't deal with the delivery company, go directly to whoever you bought it from.
