I have just received a Rubber Kimblewick bit I won on ebay, only to discover that it is metal with a black paint like coating. Did the seller really think I wouldn't notice !! Why do sellers do this, it is not the first time this has happened to me. I bid for and won an English bridle only to get a cheap foreign one, I did go into dispute with that, only to miss the deadline because I took ill and couldn't get an independent saddler to verify in time. This sort of thing makes me so mad and I now think I will avoid ebay altogether. This dishonest selling spoils it for all the honest people on ebay.

dispute the sale and give crap feedback. What was their previous feed back like ? must admit i have been very lucky. All that i get seems ok and as described. Did have a small parcel go missing once though, never ever received it !

I don't buy off Ebay anymore. I have bought 3 bridles and they all were poor quality leather. It seems to me like a place to get rid of your rubbish.

bad luck.x

I have never had a problem either but then I dont think I can get a good quality english leather bridle for a tenner!!!!

I've only ever had one problem but it was too small to dispute.

A JW browband (picture was of one) but it most definitly wasn't when it turned up.

Other than that never had a problem!

I bought a 2nd hand Albion Saddle.....
I took a bit if a punt as it was a rubbish picture, however was local so if it wasn't as described when I collected it I wouldn't have paid for it. Plus I rang Albion to check the serial number etc.
As a rule, I only buy branded, well known makes, look for good feedback and decent photos (unless local)
I've just recently purchased an extra wide 14inch show hunter saddle made by Matlock Saddlery - again another punt due to 1 bad photo, but my god was it worth it, £125 I paid and the local saddler has valued it at £350.00 - although irrelevant as this ones to keep.
Only disaster was a Weatherbeeta rug that was meant to have only been used once. What a load of cobblers, so left bad feedback and learnt a lesson - it's now used over the chicken coop in the winter for extra insulation - my mums soft :-)

I've never really had a problem, but then I always buy from high feed back members.
I love Ebay!! Got my eye on a black bridle for Horlicks (her one is falling apart) and its only 99p at the moment. It doesn't matter if its english leather or not, as its so cheap!!

Please be careful as the bridle I ended up with was like cardboard, so cheap and nasty and dangerous. It is not safe if your bridle is so bad that it falls apart when riding!!
You may be lucky I hope you are!!

Buyers can be just as bad though. I was recently selling a JW numnah on ebay - provided decent picture (of actual numnah in original plastic wrapping). I gave a good description of colour, make, material, size etc all the usual. Obviously I was listed as a private seller. It was a really good, well bid on auction - made decent money, but was still a bargin for the winner. Then the person who won suddenly e-mailed and asked me if I had it in a different colour and she didn't want it in velvet. I explained to the 'idiot' that I was a private seller and I only had the one numnah as described clearly in the auction and that is what they had bid on and won! Suffice to say they never paid and had the audacity to leave me bad feedback stating me as "unhelpful".
Sometimes I wish ebay wasn't anonymous!!!

Now this makes me mad - the lay person thinking they can tell leathers apart. English doesn't mean it was tanned in England, in fact very little is tanned in the UK and most of that goes for other markets. Even the leading brands are using English tanned imported hides and stitching them together in the UK (or some just literally "putting" them together).

English is a method of tanning the leather and the stuffing used to make the leather varies from example, German leather, which is tanned to be more supple. Either class of leather could be tanned in Argentina or India and you wouldn't know any better.

Cheap leather, not english tanned used to be stuffed with fish oil, which is why you could tell it a mile off. They also used to use human wee (amonia) in the tanning process... nice.

This bugs me as everyone thinks they are an expert on leather, but most know diddly. Nothing worse than some smart arse on eBay trying to tell you about your product.....

I can't complain - I took delivery last week of a KN dressage saddle for the princely sum of £108 plus postage. It's an oldie but def a goodie! However, suppose it's just your luck - could easily have been broken/imported leather/wrong size etc etc. Ebay's a bit of a gamble!

I may know diddly squat compared to you!! But let me tell you, I can tell very well the difference of bad and good quality leather. I know it all depends on how it is tanned and where etc. In my case the bridle was also described as being a quality brand, which it was not. I was duped in THIS case.

Sorry probably ranting because we've had some weird ones with really difficult people lately!

Its the other side of the fence and despite selling a girth as:
Havana (dark brown)
60" Buckle end to Buckle end

We got a leather girth returned from the USA, with a "not as described" dispute with PayPal finding against us, so we lost the postage we paid plus the PayPal and eBay fees (even though later Paypal revised the case and ruled in our favour, but never gave us any cash back!)

Anyway the buyer returned on the basis that the girth wasn't North American red havana (despite listing saying dark brown) and the fact that the girth was stamped 58, which is the length without buckles.

In all cases if you pay with PayPal as a buyer you are covered and as a *honest* seller they stuff you!

I haven't had any bother apart from a seller not sending a rug I ordered and Paypal got my money back.

I only ever buy branded goods or from people with 100% and over 100 feed backs. It seems to work for me and I also use the same people more than once if they are trade. I also go on reccomendations from friends if they fit my critieria.

If a girth is stamped 58" why sell it as 60"? You must know how ingorant some buyers can be.

I bought from a seller with a huge feedback and 100%. I didn't think to actually check the feedback, and received a very carppy home-made copy of a book, and very much in breach of copyright. I then checked the feedback which had loads of neutral feedback, all saying the same thing as I found with my book.
I have the same peev about the descriptions of leather goods, but you can't tell the quality over the internet, although the price is always a good guide!!
