Raaaaaaaaah! MAD MAD MAD MAD MAD

I'm nearly 2 days into a 7 day auction, selling my Equitrek on ebay, after the dealer who was the middle man for us between us and manufacturer, gave us a very cheeky/offensive offer for it last week and I decided to go for selling it myself. I've had A LOT of interest from ebayers, have 22 people watching it (which doesn't mean a lot tbh... only a few will be genuinely interested!), several people asking for more photos, info etc.

On Sunday evening, one person contacted me and offered me 4500 for it. Now I have a start price below that and a buy it now above that, no reserve (due to the cost of a reserve price tbh), and even though I may have been tempted to say balls to chancing getting 4500 or above in the actual auction, and accepting her offer, I declined. This is partly because I may get more but I also have a very good feedback score on ebay and 100% rated, and have no wishes to flout their rules! And from then on the messages with offers have flooded in! I've had one offer today for £2600!! I mean honestly... £2600?! Cheeky, offensive AS WELL AS trying to get me to flout the rules! I'm sick of opening my ebay account, thinking I have questions to answer and having 3 or 4 messages from various people asking if I will accept this offer or that offer. I send messages back telling them to bid like everyone else or to look elsewhere, but I know my particular Equitrek is apparently like hens' teeth to come by second hand, and people don't want to have to pay a huge amount.

THEN there are the messages from people who don't read the very comprehensive advert, within which I have stated that the SPACE trekka L does not have living but does have a separate tack area. I had one asking why I had not mentioned the size and layout of the living area... as I said, there isn't one. Sent message back telling him to go and look at the SHOW trekka or a lorry and expect to pay significantly more than I am asking for my SPACE trekka!

I don't mind answering questions, but why do people ask questions that are answered within the advert!? I could handle one but I've had several asking the same or similar questions, or different questions that are also answered within the text. Maybe I should add to the bottom of the ad - 'I obey ebay rules and will not accept offers for this trailer outside of the auction' as I swear I must've had about 20 offers already!

Seriously, I'm far too pregnant for this! RANT OVER!

LOL - I know EXACTLY how you feel! We had a tidy up last week, and I listed a few saddles and one of our old fish tanks. I got over 10 people trying to make me offers on the fish tank within 24 hours - I told them all to wait and watch the auction, and not a single on of them bothered bidding! Obviously just chancers hoping to get it cheaper than they thought.

When I listed my saddles, I listed every dimension of them, and STILL got people asking what colour (pictures included, and was written in description) what measurements etc (all in listing!). Some people just can't be bothered to read the ad!

Sorry also meant to say, if you answer questions via your ebay account, there should be a little tick box under your reply box that says "publish question and answer to listing" (or something to that effect). If you check that, then everyone will be able to read the question that was asked.

I know what you mean I sold my Freelander on there, it eventually sold for 5K but I had tons and tons of e-mails offering me anything from £800 up to about £2,500 - i told the guy who offered me £800 if he can find one for £800 to get me one too and i'll flog it on e-bay - I didn't end up replying to anyone in the end and left it for the genuine e-bayers to bid, the person who won was over the moon with the car and the price.

I don't like ebay for some stuff cos I like to see it first, but if someone puts something up is it ok to send them a message saying "if it doesn't sell and you are willing to let me pop in and take a look at it please contact me after the auction has ended?"

Haha, glad it's not just me then!

Thanks for the tip about questions... I will have a look at that.

lillith, I think so yes. You can contact the buyer and it is upto them when the auction ends to second chance offer to the highest bidder, but they don't have to. They could contact you if they wanted and say 'come and take a look', so it's worth a go, although from my limited experience cars, trailers, horse lorries do seem to sell quite well on there for some reason, hence I chose ebay over a classifieds ad somewhere. A lot of ebayers, like me, don't mind people coming to have a look at the item they are bidding on, but some people don't want to as it is too far to come. For eg, mine is the only Space L in the South (2nd hand) on there atm. There's one in the north 2nd hand. Hers is older than mine and she wants a lot more for it and has started bidding at 5k. I guess she might sell it as it's the only one up there... but you have to be fair!

I'm from the 'If you don't ask you don't get' camp, so I'll send someone an email asking about accepting an offer if the item doesn't sell. I wouldn't ask them to end the auction early though, and I don't think I'd ever be as cheeky as to think someone might accept £800 for a £5k car!!!

BUT I always make sure I read the ad carefully and won't offer if it specifically states not to, or ask any other stupid questions!!!

I also sell on ebay and I do share your despair when you get rafts of questions about things that are in your item description. I'll answer the first few but after that I just ignore them. If they are genuinely interested they will contact you again (or read the advert again and realise why you haven't responded).

That's acceptable though roody... if my item doesn't sell I'd be more than happy to give someone a chance at buying the trailer. But it still has nearly 6 days left, so it's not fair to all those who go the fair way about things, to just pull it from under their feet!

People who send rude offers that are half the trailer's worth, and use the 'I've just had a baby and need to get back into transporting my horse again but can't afford the full price, will you accept £2600' line, are going to get a rude answer. That particular person received a 'well I'm ABOUT to have a baby and can't afford to undersell a trailer that's worth nearly double what you just offered, so try looking at much older equitreks and different makes'. :@ Grrrr!

PMSL!! Just had a quick look on ebay to see if I can find your ad and I LOVE theat you have put this!

In response to a query received by message from one ebayer: SPACE Trekkas do NOT have living accommodation at all; it's not just my Space Trekka that does not have living area - none do! If you want living accommodation in an Equi-trek then you want the SHOW Trekka or a lorry, both of which cost significantly more money (several thousand more). The Space Trekka L is a larger version of the Space Trekka M, both of which have the space I have outlined in my advert below - horse area and separate tack/changing area that is large enough to hold a tackbox/storage boxes/a few kitchen cupboard base units if you wish (already has saddle and bridle hooks). There are NO cookers, hobs, fridges, seats or beds in a Space Trekka, however you can obviously fit cheap/free kitchen units and a portable gas camping stove if you wish.

PMSL here!!

Hi I have two saddles on ebay at the moment, I would agree that people do not read the description , I stated the size of the saddle and the width, this morning I have a message asking what the size is. Also people put offers in that are not anywhere near what you would like for an item, I was always told to try to be reasonable and meet them halfway. Rant over

LD i thought id cheer you up with my tail of selling a trailer on ebay.

lisited said trailer (very old rice but was huge in side ) only done it at as an auction.

various questions. id put in the ad that the floor needed repacing, loads of details, and loads of pictures. but as you know you still get the numpty questions.

any way had a lady offer me 300, i said no. then she kept asking questions etc. telling me how she had been "done" by a previous ebayer bla bla bla
on checking her profile she was a new member with no history

my auction stated that a deposit must be paid within 24 hours of auction ending by paypal,. the rest on collection.

soooooooooo she wins the trailer (i was on my guard here as had just exited a livery yard after the stupid brat yet again put one of my horses in danger so was wondering if someone was on a wind up.)

NO deposit paid so i contacted the winner and said deposit please, to which she said no paypal account. (so dont flippping bid or make people aware) then i had 2 days were i heard nothing, so offered trailer to next bidder. then winner finally reply, to which i say ok fair enough please pay deposit into my bank, again i was hit with a no, so i said ok can you at least call me so i atleast know who you are and that your genuine.

so she calls. and arranges to collect said trailer. when i asked where she was coming from she said liverpool  (liverpool to devon for a 500 quid trailer)

any way turn up they did... in around 60ks worth of new car. im still scratching my head over this one. i honestly wouldnt think people would go that far for a beaten up rotted trailer! how wrong was i!

Hold out for the price you want on your Equitrek. We couldn't get a second hand L for love nor money and bought brand new. I keep it immaculate as I know I would easily get £5.5k for it (1 year old now)

As for Ebayers. I have a drizabone coat on there which is ending in 20hours. Tonight i get home and I have a message. Its from the winning bidder who only bid yesterday.

His question was - What is your reserve price as I'm loosing interest.

My reply - Loose interest then!

I am so not selling to him/her as I can imagine they will be trouble once they get the item.

Don't get me started on ebay at the moment. I listed an item and it sells to someone with 0 feedback...and nothing happens. Email her and nothing, finally phone her and she says her paypal isn't working and she has lost her cheque book, would I take a credit card. Yes I say must have shocked the hell out of her cos the phone goes dead lol

So I do a 2nd chance offer and they say they want it but will have to wait a few days. Ok no problem (although its only £25). And nothing....

So I list it again and blow me another ebayer with 0 feedback wins...and nothing happens. Contact him after a few days and he says he's sending a cheque (sigh). And nothing happens. Eventually get my fees back and do an 2nd chance offer. Yes she wants it, but didn't pay as paypal not working or some rubbish

Its now listed for the 3rd time and if it looks like someone with 0 feedback is winning I'm going to scream!

Thanks for all the tips and the funny/not funny stories guys! Glad to see I'm not the only one who has had/having problems!

I have 26 watchers now and there are 5 days to run. Maybe at some point someone will bid!!!

I've tried setting every filter known to man (or ebay) but couldn't find a way of filtering out the 0 rated ones. I'm actually getting persecution complex and think I'm being targetted :D

Tbh, Ebay make enough money anyway so if someone does offer enough cash then i'd take it. The reason I say this is that when you let the auction run & arrange for the buyer to collect then 9 times out of ten the morons will turn up and THEN try to haggle!! It is sooo annoying when this happens. Or they want you to ship it to Botswana or whatever. I have given up on selling via Ebay because it is all geared up in favor of the buyer and the sellers now have very little protection. Also be carefull using paypal for payments for collection only items- they can pay via paypal - collect item and then file a goods not recieved claim and take the money back off you! Its a fairly common scam. Cash on collection only is safest for non postable goods like trailers, cars and lorries.

I have asked for a deposit via paypal and cash on collection. :) Deposit is quite a small amount - enough to cover ebay fees if someone messes me around.
