Another one!

What a long day - left home at 6am this morning and only just back - don't you just love it when you have almost 5 hours between dressage and SJ!!!

Anyway I was absolutely thrilled with Hen today, she was fantastic. Doesn't look great on paper this time, but she actually went the best she's gone. Did 31 dressage which was good for the section, think she was about 4th or 5th. Showjumped clear

very pleased with that as it's her showjumping that I think will normally let her down. XC she was absolutely fantastic - so confident, but had a really unfortunate 20 pens early on course, not her fault, ground was pretty hard and she slipped on turn to step. It was on side of hill and the turn was really slippery, I tried to make a nice wide turn, but a horse coming over the fence in the opposite direction next to it caught her eye and lost the line and then the turn was tight and she slipped so badly we had no engine to jump up the step. I then just cantered round the rest of the course as was pretty hard and ended up with lots of time penalties, but I was sooo pleased with the feel she gave me. It was big enough and she was so bold.

Long day, no prizes, but thrilled with how she went

Well done! Sounds positive, did you do the alternative in the end?
Shame about the slip, sounds like she was very genuine otherwise. Caused a few problems that step up to brush, not really sure why they were disliking the brush thing

Which alternative? At the corner? Yes I did - couldn't see the point in jumping the corner when the alternative took no time at all. I did consider having a go at it as I'd already had 20 pens, but thought I'd just give her a nice ride and take alternative. Hardly anyone jumped the corner really!

She didn't have any problems with the step or the brush...just couldnt jump it having nearly fallen over!!!

Yours went well - I saw your SJ with Sunny, just looked green!! Nice though

Yes Sunshine is the greenest 10 year old you'll ever meet!! She's only ever hunted and done that 1 intro with me (and a riding club 2'6 last summer if that counts...)
She's very, very capable but incredibly suspicious of things lurking in fences!

3 people I didnt know asked me whether I took the alternative or risked the corner, seemed like a silly risk to take to me, all that I saw go to jump it had a glance off!

Bearing in mind you could jump the alternative on an angle on about 3 strides, was a no-brainer to jump the corner, by the time you'd slowed up enough to set up, it was quicker to just pop over the alternative!

Well done Mel.
Does sound an unfortunately time on the xc, such a shame, as shes been going fabulous this season.

Tis one of those things tho, and at least she wil be back to fight another day

Where you going next?

She gave me such a fantastic feel I won't be dwelling on the 20 pens!

As owner will NEVER sell her, I'm not worried about her record either so it's not a problem!

Bovington next - a week on Sunday. First outing this season that my OH is coming to - he's coming home from 3 months away next week and is getting dragged eventing straight away!!! Hope Hen behaves and impresses him and then I might not get so much grief about the time I spend doing the horses! hehe!

Exactly no need to dwell.

Have a good on at Bovingdon

LOL yes you must try and impress OH! that way like you say, you cant get moaned at for enjoying yourself lol

Well done Mel thats a great result. Shame about the slip but so long as shes ok and didnt lose confidence from it. Sounds like you had a really good day.
I will hopefully see you at Bovington. I have day before dressage so should be finished early on sun. I expect i will take my boy home and drive back over to watch for the afternoon, so will try and find you to say hello.

aw bless her, well done both of you...
she sounds very promising doesnt she!
how old is she Mel ??

She's 7. Owner bred her and did nothing really with her. I started riding her about 6 months ago and she had hardly even cantered, let alone jumped! She's had a lot to learn in 6 months but she's a clever mare!
