Lovely day - annoying dressage of 39 but I did think it was crap - we had a distinct lack of clean transitions. Was really annoyed as he had been working in beautifully. My dressage is just not coming together this year so a bit more work required I think!

SJ was fine - could not get the warm up right and was nearly screaming - too long/too short never bang on so gave up and went in. Had a bit of a spook at 2nd fence but went well for 4 faults.

XC - course was lovely a few questions but nothing very much did not put my foot down as I was not in a competitive position so just went for a nice clear which he duly did. I had 10 time faults but he is eventing on Saturday so better to save him for another day. Had one hairy moment at the hedge with ditch in front where he looked and looked and then got really high at it but at least he kept going! My friend measured that hedge and it was 3'11 so decent sized fence!

So all in all was very pleased and will post the videos when I have access to a computer at home!

But I having a major spurs problem - my horse is so thin skinned that my old spurs mark him (20mm ones) so bought some of the really rounded ones and they are fine for Dressage but he is not sharp enough off the leg for SJ and XC. I bought some new Korsteel 30mm ones and he is brilliant in them but they mark him. Any ideas? This horse is very backwards thinking and in a comp environment he needs something more than the rounded ones.

well done x

id be interested to hear what people say about the spurs. Im having a similar problem with Archie as he is thin skinned. IM currently riding him without them on. However at competitions he gets nervous and backs off my leg so i need them but cant find any that dont mark him......

Good result, well done.

What about those spurs with rolling ball ends (I'm sure someone will know the name)

i've got some wicked ones which i picked at a LG clinic, they sound horrible but my horse also has very thin skin. They are max length allow but the diametre is size of my tumb. Sounds horrible BUT they are brilliant as as they have a large surface area on horse they don't mark and i can keep gg between leg at start. Then half way round i want to removed them cos i can't stop him once engine gets going

The ball ones I imagine would be similar to what I have now - I have had no problems with them but that instant reaction is missing which as you can imagine when he is spooking at a jump you need. I have to make his mind up and sometimes a PC kick is not quick enough.
Can you get some more round 30mm ones but which still have a reaction? Maybe I need to invent some! I spent ages looking at spurs testing them on my hand before going for the Korsteel one so really peed off!

Do you know what make they are? I will need to investigate!

err sorry, but she buys them in from Korea and they have no trade name and i've never seem them on sale. What about trying to contact her?? she always doing clinic in this area
sorry not much help??? could get photo for you,so you can forward or if your doing something local could always let you have ago with them to see if they work

Just had a look at impulse - I do not think they are what I am after - I already have some very similar but far more attractive than that and they do not get much of a reaction.

Well done Rodders! So glad he is so consistent on his XC now !
I dont know what to suggest about the spurs- how about searching a few American tackshop website? The USA has a much wider and better variety of things like that.

Excellent

Well done Lec and Rodders.

I used black plastic spurs on my little TB who also had very thin skin, but i used to put surgical spirit on his sides to harden the skin.
This really helped and i was able to wear normal spurs afterwards

Brilliant idea - I will pop to the chemists today. Would solve all these issues and cost me less money!

Lol I knew I had one shot at the hedge before she noticed the ditch so saw a long one off the corner and she took off before she noticed the ditch and bl**dy h*ll did she get in the air- felt like we were flying for an eternity!!
