Does any one know if you should take a break from feding echinecea?
I have heard that if humans are taking it that they should have a break from it every so often.
has anyone heard of this for horses???

Interesting point Angi. My rescued mare is on echinacea to boost her immune system coz she has dreadful liver damage from ragwort poisoning with a previous owner. Also my other horse is on it as he had to have an eye removed and the other one remains off and on gungy and worriesome. The vets talked about a low level steroid to boost his immune system but of course steroids can cause laminitis just because they increase the appetite. So they are both on echinacea. D&H do a high quality one for horses. But my lovely YO mentioned the other day that she had heard that you should only give echinacea for short spells. So I'm interested in your replies!

I feed it to my itchy horse and on the bottle it recemmends taking a two day break every month, so I dont feed it on the 1st and 2nd so I remember. Very good stuff tho

I have had a response from D&H

they advise to feed for 6 weeks followed by a 2 week break as it appears that nutritional support to the immune system may be reduced if it is continually fed.

They are not aware of any damage caused by long term usage.

Hope this helps guys
