Ok, so it's almost set in stone that we will be moving by the 1st of May, and go on to assisted DIY. Need to do some research on bedding now, and thought I may as well ask you.

What is the most economical but good quality horse bedding you have come across?

I am going to go against the grain and say Aubiose! Despite being about £9 a bale, I had the worlds dirtiest horse and had a semi deep littered bed. Didn't even have matting underneath - straight on a concrete floor. I say semi as I am very fussy and used to take out more than I probably should have! I used to take the poos out daily and scrape the top off once weekly to expose the wet at the bottom and remove this - used half a bale per week to top up his bed. So cost be about £4 per week (we bought in bulk so saved a bit on the price per bale)

When he was on ecobed (with rubber matting), he went through 4 a week. So despite being cheaper per bale it cost loads more

I echo Zoon, I have my girls on Snowflake Shavings, they are £9.22 a bale, but one bale does them both for the week. My big girl is deep littered, my welshie is full mucked, they have 1/3 of a bale each on a Mon, and the remaining third between them on a thursday, the beds look great (Im a livery groom and very fussy!) where as when I was using Cushion Bed - £4.40 a bale and Bedmax - £6 a bale from work, they would go through at least 2 cushion bed and 1 bedmax each a week.

I use straw, about one bale per week at £2.75 a bale. My horse is out all day and in at night, full muckout. I think it is good value!

I'm with Zoon - aubiose for me. Plus it takes minimal mucking out so I've more time to do nicer things than shovel wee and poo!
