EDINBURGH LIVERY - HELP!!!

Hi all,

My best friend and I have both applied to the University of Edinburgh to study and with results day looming we have been looking to find a place for our horses (yes they are coming with us lol). We initially applied to Pentland but unfortunately I have been waitlisted which doesn't guarantee me a stable for early September (move in is September 7th)

So this brings me to my question - does anyone know of any livery yards easily accessible by public transport from Edinburgh with spaces? We have two exceptionally well behaved geldings standing at 17.2hh and 16.2hh and ideally would be looking for full livery.

Has it got to be full livery? And how far out of Edinburgh are you prepared to travel?

If central, your basic choices are Pentland, Tower Farm or the Edinburgh Equestrian Centre. Personally, and others will agree here, the latter two would be a "no". Tower Farm are now down to about half a dozen liveries. The yard manager, the words "bully" and "over-bearing" spring to mind, which is a shame because the nice owner is dominated by her. She will over-rule you on how your horses are managed / ridden. Edinburgh Equestrian Centre, again, the tenant farmer / livery manager is terrifying. Expect to be her best friend one minute, and receive 24 hours notice to leave the next.

Cousland Park is good and everyone seems really happy there, but not sure it's that accessible by public transport. If you are willing to consider DIY with the hope of some sort of assistance, there would be Rosslyn Livery, Swanston, Mountskip or Kirkettle. Again, wouldn't necessarily say they were public transport friendly.

Do note, however, that both Meadowhead and Morton Mains, which are DIY but relatively close to bus routes are managed by the same person that "manages" Tower Farm, so beware for the same reasons.

Other forum members may be able to help with West or East Lothian depending on how far you are willing to travel.
