Does anyone know what procedure this might be please?

I don't have a clue and would like to know what is going on. Thankyou :)

It certainly looks a bit like that doesn't it? :D

Yet it could be as simple as just cleaning (I did only say could) a bit of mouth blood goes a long way. From the reaction I have seen on facebook anyone would think they were drilling a hole through the tongue.

I once had a Vet sort out a pony's teeth with power tools, he merely nicked the gum and the blood! You'd have thought he had cut the tongue out rather than a little nick - which is why I refuse to clamber up on the overly dramatic, and already crowded, "Shoot the nasty cruel man" and "Call the RSPCA" bandwagon.

does not look nice does it?

but most likely some sort of dental work and as previous post says they have nicked some soft tissue in the mouth

though why they would not have some sort of headcollar on is beyond me as all horses have the ability to snap out of sedation and it can very dramatic when/if they do

Not professionals who ever they are. No headcollar, an electric DIY drill in the horse's mouth and a cheap head torch, not suitable for the job.
They need reporting to the RSPCA.

Power tools are commonly used in operations both animal and human, my Mum is a retired Theater Sister and she swears by Black and Decker:p

My vets power float is just a big cordless drill with attachments for ED ,
But on the photo it looks like a normal drill bit on the drill it's very strange.
Enfys where did the picture come from ?
