Can anyone recommend either a book with lots of photos or some YouTube videos that cover the basics of saddle fitting please? I can tell when my saddle doesn't fit but don't understand why/what's causing it and don't really know what I should look for to tell if a saddle fits. Even better if it talks about the horses conformation in conjunction with saddle fit.
I have a great saddle fitter as well as instructor who is good at these things but I'd like to start educating myself too.

Schleese are interesting, but not all the points are applicable to other systems of saddle fit. They fit with a wider pommel and more upright (ie narrower) tree points than almost any other type of saddle fitting, and have VERY flexible trees in the saddles, they also believe in SUPER wide channels, so a totally different paradigm to most British/SMS/MSFC type of fitting.

I would poke about on FB, many fitters, me included, will post technical stuff at least occasionally. And see how much your own fitter would be happy to talk through with you, I am always happy to answer questions and demo what I'm talking about, so it's always worth asking.

Thanks everyone :) my saddle fitter is out tomorrow (she was recommended by you sbloom!) So I will ask a few more questions than normal for mine specifically, she's a lovely lady so hopefully won't mind.
Will be exploring the links recommended above too, thankyou :)

I have a brand new Schleese book and Dr Kerry Ridgeway DVD, also new in wrapping, on saddle fitting that I'm just about to list on eBay at the weekend if ithey're of any interest to anyone.

It was Dr Ridgeway that was the saddle fit expert when I was doing my EBW course and I found his DVD (have another used copy) really good. I also had the Joyce Harman DVDs (English & western) but found them pretty dry and hard going. I had both of Joyce Harman's book to and it's a good foundation but I didn't really find them that informative.

There is a hardback book with a red and yellow cover (the name escapes me) that I found really helpful and informative... I'll have a quick check on Amazon for it... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Practical-...qid=1551884395&sr=8-4&keywords=saddle+fitting

If it's actually worth £97 I wish I could find my copy! ha ha I'm sure you'll find more reasonably priced editions somewhere online
