Yuck, my horses have caught lice off the skanky pony in the field next door to them. My very fluffy filly is worst affected, not massively infested but they are very much there. My other 2 have been rugged for most of winter and although I couldn't see any lice on them, they more than likely have them too. I have doused all 3 in louse powder and temporarily moved them to another field (they won't be going back until skanky horse has either been moved or been treated). I think the filly will need more than a dose of powder though to get rid though.
Whats the best way to treat these? Bearing in mind its too cold to give a bath to a filly with a VERY thick, long winter coat.
Help! Its making me itch :( :o

Years back I had a similar problem, new yearling brought them with him  I got a liquid from the vet which you poured down their spine, it did a great job :D Can't remember its name :(

Coopers fly repellent plus. You can buy it at the feed shop or online.

Apply with a sponge and watch them die. Reapply after 10 days to break the cycle. Fab stuff!

ETA Nitty is called Nitty for a reason. She was crawling when I got her!

i think coopers fly stuff kills lice, frontline will do the job too. i often wonder where the lice live for 10 months of the year .. then suddenly they appear? and where do the flies go in the winter?

Coopers Spot On from your vet, 10ml for horses and 5ml for ponies, poured along the spine from mane to tail. Gone in a couple of days but best to repeat in 3 weeks to break the cycle.
