My 12.2hh pony is coming home from his loan today. I decided to have him back for my son (who really wants to learn to drive like mummy) and have a sharer to ride him a bit instead of putting him back out on loan as he really is a perfect 'mothers dream' pony.

But the reality is kicking in that i have been a single horse owner (well only one at a time to care for) for 12 years now and i am a little nervous, hope i can cope with 2 again. I know i could always find him a loan home again if i struggled but i hope it will all be fine.

Any tips for doing 2 ? A little nervous to say the least !

Exciting :) Try and stable them next to each other and in the same field much easier! could you try matting and a smaller bed for each to cut down mucking out time?the sharer will really help I think good luck

Just try to be organised!
I make up several Haynets in one go, to,save time especially when working.
Also, when I turn out I lead one, and the others follow,so,saving time doing them separately. Ok, not what you "should" do, but I know my horses and its safe enough for me. Have the odd time when a follower wanders off, but its not often!
Keep on top of poo picking, as two do produce much much more than one! If I have to miss a day, its a nightmare the next one! Often 3 barrow loads!
You will be fine once you are in a routine.

Tips:
Stuff plenty of nets (already said) and if necessary stuff old feed sacks too for tipping out into field during the week.
Make up dry feeds for the working week - pop into plastic bags or old tupperware tubs
Fill all water tanks to brim at weekend, means if in a hurry you 'can' dip a water bucket in there for overnight use on a weekend if stabled or if yard tap frozen at dawn...
I only brush off once a day on winter work days - evenings now as lighter, for full check over.
Poo-pick twice daily if out 24/7; its worth training yourself to do this, saves massive amounts of time at weekend & its also not so hard for child to join in either as barrow lighter. Also not hard to leave for one night if weather foul ;)

Good luck, hope its not too hard to start with :)
