I affiliated Hannah just before the end of December because it has always been my dream to get her to BD medium, which she is more than capable of
smile.gif
Until I got Grace I had never competed BD, only affiliated with Hannah upto Elementary. So, I thought now Hannah is back in work it is time she started competing BD
laugh.gif

I am unbelievably nervous about taking her out BD because she is an 11 years old IDxTB who I call my little carthorse
smile.gif
I have been used to riding one of the 'big warmbloods' you see at the BD competitions, and now I am going out on something completely different
smile.gif

I have put her in for the Prelim and the Novice... I didn't want to do any Prelims with her really because she is a bit of a bugger and starts doing travers when she is being silly and is bored

If you do more advanced work with her, it keeps her brain focussed on what she is doing
smile.gif
But I thought it could be her warm up for the Novice and a chance to start getting her used to competing again

Wish us luck!

Thats not too far & I've been meaning to scout out the venue as a *possible* for taking madam too. Will defo try to get up!

I love my little carthorse, she is such a sweetheart but a bloody argumentative one

Your IDxTB is lovely... I love the breed, and Hannah is so capable of moving up through the levels because she is incredibly powerful behind and has such a great jump in her canter, but she doesn't have the flashy trot that comes so natural to Grace
smile.gif

I was once at an elementary unaffil and this lady was going on and on about how much she had paid for her WB... I was working Han in a double at the time because she works better in that than a plain snaffle, and she stuck her nose in the air and said, "Irish horses just cannot compete!" so I could overhear. We carried on warming up, went in after her and Han did a really nice elementary test. Her medium trot is so powerful behind, but just safe in front. When the scores came up, Han had won the class a good 5% above this WB, and the lady stood in front of the board and declared, "I am going to speak to the judge! How can that Irish mare have beaten my warmblood!!!" Needless to say Hannah and I just chuckled

I used to travel my Irish horse in a single trailer, my husband had been made redundant from work and we spent the money on this tatty Irish 4 year old gelding and a trailer.I evented him but he got injured as a 6 year old and had a year off then we took to dressage and flew through the grades. At 10 he was doing p.st.g and was a guinea pig for a judges exam,Lady Inchcape was taking her exam and phoned me later to ask if I would sell him.She never bought him but it made me realise how much he was worth and my husband was only able to get a poorly paid job so we were broke.I sold him on but always regretted it.I kept in touch with him and he carried on doing well for many years.
I have told you my tale before but I had such downs when he strained his tendon and such highs later on with him.I hope it gives you hope and ambition

What a nice story, a shame you had to sell him though. I'm hoping to buy a youngster for dressage next year, and my main requirement will be that it has a good temprament! I think I'll end up with an ID X as I love them.

Good luck Becki, hope you do well.

Han is your mare that you bought back into work after having the foal isn't she? Be watching with interest how you get on. My old girl Dell is back in work after 4 foals and is 17 this year - but we had our first lesson last night and I am trying to plan a first outing with her soon

Yes, it is the mare who had the foal
laugh.gif

She did a great job having him, she produced a stunning SHB(GB) colt so I thought now it was her time to achieve her potential. When I first bought her she was my first horse and I did not really have any ridden ambitions other than to hack her out alone
smile.gif
This was a big achievement in itself after many hacks of me having to get off because she was spinning around in the middle of the road.

Then I started to do more and more flatwork training with her and discovered how much I enjoyed this side of the training
smile.gif
I did some unaffiliated competitions before she went into foal and then got Grace and just loved BD more and more
smile.gif
Now Grace has some time off, it is Hannah's turn to go out and compete.

I do love my little carthorse, don't get me wrong! I have bred a stunning colt from her who I have high hopes for, and she is more than capable of doing a nice medium test
smile.gif
But I have been used to having a WB that is so easy to pick up marks with
blush.gif
Grace's medium work is effortless to her, her trot is just pingy and her canter so very natural. Hannah has to work for what she gets marks wise... but when she gets it right, she does get the higher marks because it is 'correct'. It is just getting a judge that does not always look for the flashy movements...
