Eek finally decided, rather nervous.

So it's wont really be a big deal for most people but I'm so nervous! Finally bit the bullet and moving my welshy boy to a yard with facilities so we can get our competing underway!

At the moment hes in a field with no facilities but couldn't move him because my mare doesn't stable and has issues with other horses (long story) so havnt been able to move him. So my mum has got a lovely 15.2 tb to keep her company in our field.

Really nervous about moving to a yard though! Never been on one before ... So just some questions really!

It's a DIY yard so will they all get turned out and in at different times or will there be set times? Whats the general gist with the arena e.g just use when you want? Can you use what bedding you want? I know it's probably different for every yard but any knowledge would be great!

Off to have a final look round and confirm I want the place on Friday! Argh it seems so little but I am actually over the moon that I am finally taking that step towards what I have always wanted to do! Ah it's like a surreal dream

Make a list and ask when you go on Friday, every yard has different rules so no one can really answer your questions without knowing the yard. I am sure it will be fine, you should enjoy being able to do more.

Hiya! I have experience of a few DIY yards - all different

Turn out - generally done by owner as and when they feel like it - people try to schedule it if necc eg during winter, so one isnt stood out alone for ages - often field mates will bring in /turn out each others horses for this reason, on a very loose 'as needed rota'

Arena - I have seen as and when use or booked usage - usually the former, which can be frustrating, and a bit of a free for all On one small yard there was this thing called waiting and politeness Worked well, even though there was no prior booking

Bedding again seen it being you can use what you want (most yards) or one was restricted to shavings or similar because straw 'was just too messy!'

Thank you! That was really helpful! Its only a 5 stable yard so hopefully everyone will help each other out etc. Can't wait to get him moved in if it all works out
