There seems to be an awful lot of trailers being stolen in spite of having wheel locks fitted.

Two days ago a neighbour had theirs taken from right beside the house, yet the thieving b******ds still managed to break the wheel lock off and nick the trailer without making any noise.

I know hitch locks are pretty useless as they simply lift the towbar up and shackle it to their vehicle without using the hitch, then once they've got the trailer to a safe place they can tackle the lock at their leisure.

But I don't understand how they get around wheel clamps; anybody know? And does anyone know of a SERIOUSLY good make of lock that would stump the most determined (insert suitable noun here)?

Bad news I'm afraid when the livery yard mum is at had trailers taken they have bought angle grinders or similar with them and cut clean through the wheel clamps. Mainly the three point ones. Though where the trailers are kept is probably 200m from the nearest house. Also cut through the chain to the car park!
Know that is not alot of help but we have found the best deterant is moss! Our unclean well worked trailer is the only one not to have been stolen.
But good luck.

wheel locks are pretty pointless. i remember a trailer stolen and they didnt even bother trying to remove the lock, just hitched up smashed through the gate and eventually the wheel lock came apart and fell off. woke everyone up though!

Bulldog wheel clamps are the best, IME.

In all honesty, when the thieving b*****ds want your trailer, they are going to take it regardless of the security you have. If you take all the precautions you can then at least your insurance should pay out. I have to tell my insurer what clamp I use and the key number so guarantee my trailer is insured. That's all you can do.

Wheel locks are ineffective.

Postcode the roof of your trailer with large lettering and have any windows etched with the postcode.

The only way to keep a trailer safe is to keep it out of site and locked down on a concrete base.

Oh well..

There are four trailers kept on our yard, so I think maybe if I have clamps on BOTH back wheels, they'll decide it's too much hassle to take mine and have next door's instead!
