A friend told me she put an egg in her horses feed, not cooked and with the shell on and everything.

Does anybody else do this and what are the benefits? I think shiny coat is one of them.

[/ QUOTE ] Have fed eggs, but certainly not with the shell on. We only fed them if a horse needed extra protein but that was years ago.

Whilst I've never actually fed a horse an egg, most the horses up the my livery yard will break and eat any eggs left by the hens in their stabes so you need to get them first!!

I feed my ponies eggs it is supposed to give them a nice coat and an added bit of protein but I don't put the shells in and I only usually feed them if no one has been eating them in our house and they have gone over the sell by date but still sink in a bowl of water

Many years ago I had a horse that used to eat its droppings and I was advised to crush a raw egg (shell and all!) in his feed every day for ten days. I did and he stopped!

I'd forgotton about Eggs in feed!

I used to years ago when there were free range hens on the farm - But I never fed the shell?

Dont know if my horse would eat the shell but both of my labs would!!

The incomparable Arkle used to have half a dozen eggs and a bottle of Guinness in his evening feed and it never did him any harm!!!

Correct! They used to be fed on hunting/showing/racing yards for protein. I give my horse an egg a day, shell and all, and he loves it.

A horse on the yard I used to work at was fed a raw egg in the shell everyday, i was told it promoted healthy feet (she had tiny feet) think it was suppost to make them grow.
Im not certain theres a scientific factor in this at all but i have heard of other people feeding raw eggs aswell.

Oh good so I am not hearing things then. Thanks
